Do you like to wear perfume or cologne? I can't wear it because I get a very bad headache. I also have a hard time being around anyone who is wearing a scent. I guess my sense of smell goes into overload and I can't handle it. Sometimes, I have been at a restaurant where someone is wearing a very heavy scent and it makes my food taste horrible. Does this happen to you?

I've experienced the whole thing where you're eating, but you smell someone who is drenched in perfume, and suddenly you can taste it in your food. =[ I wear one spritz of perfume, vanilla scented, because I love the smell and usually my friends can't smell it unless they're sitting right next to me. That way I can still enjoy the smell but other people won't be bothered by it.
I know elderly people sometimes use a TON of perfume because they can't shower as often, and they think that the perfume covers the smell, but when I smell an elderly lady who smells like she bathed in perfume I about keel over. It's just too much to handle!

No I am not big on smells or cologne or any thing like that. Never have been in to that and I don't really appreciate it on women either. My wife bought me this manly deodarent with manly smells once and I hated it. I could smell it all day long I couldn't stand it, I stopped using it and threw it away. I told her not to buy me any thing smelly like that again.

I love aromas however my husband gets a headache when there is a strong smell present. We bought a glade air freshener that sprays every 30 minutes and he said it reminded him of one of those big industrial sprays used in a public bathroom. I thought it smelled okay, just okay, so I got rid of it for him. We compromised and now I have aroma therapy candles in the bathroom and kitchen. The candles smell wonderful and I recommend everyone to go and buy the buttercream scent from bath and body works.
As for perfumes, the best ones to get are the roll on oils. If you break out easily I do not recommend getting the oils however. As for the deodarent, women should never buy their man deoderant. Ever. It is a very personal choice for a man believe it or not. As women we love things that smell sweet, men do not. Men only like women that smell sweet.

I use cologne everyday and perfume on some special occasions. But scents with musk give me headache also. I think I'm allergic to it not sure. I only hate perfumes that are so strong, and i hate being with people who wear it.

Hi hmk
I do wear perfume, but there is some kinds that I cant wear. It does give me the headache that you speak of you. I was told once that the reason that we do this is that the aroma is too strong and it makes us have an allergic reaction to it. I try to stay with the more calmer fragance. You know the ones that not not real strong in smell. I can wear Lady Stetson, and any of the musk just fine.

Well, I am neutral to the idea of wearing perfumes of any kind. I am not allergic to it but not a regular user either. I have around five to six bottles stacked up at home, mainly gifts, and I would take ages to use them up LOL. My main problem is that when I spray it, the smell’s refreshing alright but after a few hours, alongwith the sweat, it becomes kind of nauseating for me. Ideally I would like to change my clothes immediately and have a bath to feel fresh but that’s not always feasible so I have to go on carrying that nauseating aroma with me. I use perfumes only on special occasions or if I am going to a party, which is rare.

you sound like my mom. she hates when she is somewhere and she is with someone that has a lot of perfume on. she usually wears body sprays because they are lighter in scent. i do wear perfume but i cannot smell it due to a permanently stuffy nose. i seem to have the opposite problem as you and my mom!

I am the same way I can't wear a lot of purfumes and I can't stand being around people who are either it gives me a headache as well. I can handle like a nice light musk or a really light fragrance, and I do like a fragrance called Sweet Pea from Bath and Body Works it smells more like something sweet then it does perfume and that is why I like it, but I usually only wear it if we are going out some place nice. I do wear a deodarant that has a tropical smell and that does not bother my nose it is kind of like sun tan lotion and I think it smells good, but it is not over powering.

I never wear perfume. I personally think that it's really distracting. When I was younger, everytime my mom took me to the mall, we always had to rush past the makeup departments, because my eyes would get really watery and I occasionally got headaches. But if you wear a light perfum and only dabble a tiny bit behind your eyes, then I wouldn't mind. I guess we're similar, with our sense of smell. My mom wears perfume to work, so our house always smells of perfume in the morning, but it's a good thing the perfume on her wears off by the time she gets home. I hope everyone has a good day!

I understand where you are coming from. Some scents are so strong that you can still smell it even after the person has left the room. When I get on an elevator sometimes you can still smell the persons cologne or perfume in the air. Perfumes and colognes are filled with lots of cancer causing ingredients as well. I talk about it on my cure for all diseases blog. It is part of the reason why we get sick.

i do have that problem too but maybe not quite as bad though my sense of smell has gotten stronger lately so maybe its just i haven't been near anyone with strong perfume lately. i do agree there are some horrible scents that make me really nauseous there used to be a girl who would drench herself in one of them on my bus in high school so i went to school nauseated every morning i thought even the waste treatment plant next to the school smelled better which is pretty bad. there are some light spicy smells like green apple or orange and cinnamon that i do like if they don't have certain chemicals and i wear those on rare occasion.

I won't use perfumes and I won't like them very much. But I've never felt such a bad headache as you said. I wont be irritated if any one near me wares perfume but up to a limit. I can tolerate some mild perfumes but aggressively hate jasmine perfumes. I've suffered a worst headache because of the jasmine perfume.
I've never met a situation like that "change in taste of food" Any way the scent you smelled might be that much bad... Be-aware of such scents, just keep some distance from such people... Have a nice time "hmkoct5".

It doesn't happen to me. I like to wear a nice cologne on special occasions. It makes me feel a little sophisticated.

NO THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME. I HAVE SMELLED PEOPLE THAT HAVE A VERY HEAVY SMELL BUT I JUST GET AWAY BUT I DONT GET A HEADACHE.
I DO WEAR IT BUT JUST ENOUGH. I DO NOT BATH MYSELF IN IT AT ALL BECAUSE THEN I WON'T EVEN STAND MYSELF!!! lol!!!!
I HAVE AN AUNT THAT GETS WHAT YOU GET AND SHE SAYS THEY ARE NOT HEADACHES SHE CALLS IT A MIGRAINE. FOR HER SHE GETS IT ALOT. EVEN THE SMELL OF SOAP IF IT IS TOO STRONG OR YOUR DEODORANT. ALL THAT WILL MAKE HER GET A MIGRAINE.
HAPPY MYLOTTING
