I bought a 30 mbps connection but I am not even reaching 22 mbps. What can I do? Is there a setting I have to change? Or what? :(

That 22mbps is very good though but as you said you paid for 30mbps, My internet 1mbps so i get 0.7 for download and 0.3 for upload, but they are seldom that way most of the times lower than the average rate. Your speed will all depend on the server, when your got IP from a busy server then you will experience lower speeds. If you are not satisfied with your connection you can RESET your modem so by chance you will get connected to a server that is not that fully loaded.

In reality you get 1/4 th downloading speed of your internet connection speed. If you have a 32MBps plan ten you will get a downloading speed of 8MBps . The most part of the speed is for surfing and not for downloading.

It's always slower than claimed. 30mbps is the most optimal speed in the best case scenario. They usually say up to30mbps. But 22-30 is pretty big gap, I don't know. I don't have experience with such a high speed connections
You're lucky anyway, I have download speed up to 4mbps upload miserable 256kbps and I bet I'm paying more for it than you do for yours:(

22Mbps . Wow!! We can't even get more than 6Mbps here in our country. I'm envious! I suggest you ask your service provider what is supposed to be the range of the speed of your service. Is that a cable service? If I may ask?
Like the others said, the speed sounds optimal but check with your ISP first just to be sure.

Oh sorry, just to add, you can ask them what is usually the maximum "throughput" for your service. 30Mbps in your case is actually what they call the "bandwidth."
To give you an example, our service has an 832Kbps bandwidth but the largest throughput we achieved so far is about 750Kbps.

Most Internet connection speeds are always lower than what they claim.
You could try deleting all your temp files and defrag the hard discs which might give you a slight improvement.
I would give customer service a call and see if there are any setting that you can optimise with your modem or whatever.

First I thought that you had mistaken 3 for 30. Since my internet provider gives a maximum of 4 Mbps speed. Then I did a search on the internet and realized that you are talking 30 Mbps speed. When the company says that the speed is 30Mbps, it means that the speed can be upto 30Mbps. However it does not mean that we will get 30Mbps speed all the time. The normal speed one can expect is average of 28. If I were in your situation, then I would also be concerned. The reason for getting the slow speed could be distance between your house and the building from where the service is being provided. If you live closer to their building then you are likely to get higher speed and slower speed if you live farther away. Or the connections might not be good.
You can check what speed your neighbors are getting and accordingly call the company.
I also read that Windows XP reserves around 20% of the speed for itself. You could ask a PC wiz to assist you in increasing the PC capability.

there are tons of possible causes for you to achieve lower speeds.. if its DSL, it usually depends on your distance from your isp. if its cable, it usually depends on the strength of your cable signal. if its wireless, well.. usually a cloudy weather causes lower speeds..
just curious about 1 thing.. how'd you find out about your actual speed? did you test it through speedtest.net?

diamia hi my son always says that the mbps is always a bit lower than what
they say. If you have a trouble shooter for your browser or your particular
windows ask for some help , if I were you. maybe some other mylotter can
shed more light onto the subject.

what our friends say to you here are all true.it's not exactly you will get 30mbps as what your isp claims. if the isp provide you with the internet speed it only means that it is the maximum speed you will attain. there are lots of reasons why you won't get what you paid for and that includes unavoidable circumstances that your isp doesn't have any control of.
try checking your speed by downloading a atleast 500mb of file and then test it. why need to download while testing the speed?. because the browser will think that you are just opening a normal webpage and it will only set a minimum amount of bandwith for you to open the speedtest website.unlike when you are downloading, the browser will stress itself and will use the full allocated speed by your isp. and that is the speed that will be recorded on the speedtest site.
