Do People Talk In Person Anymore?

I don't know about you but I am finding that IM and email has replaced good old fashioned communication. I remember the days when I used to talk on the phone with my friends and have a good laugh. The conversation was flowing and continuous, you could hear the expression in their voice and know if they were happy or sad. Nowadays I find that all people do is post on Facebook, MSN instant messaging, cellphone text messaging, twittering and email. I barely get to talk to my friends anymore because talking on the phone is like something from the stone age. You don't call, you text message. What is up with that? I notice even with work related stuff, even though you have to cover your butt, people will continuously email back and forth just to get a point across. It would have been easier to just pick up the phone then clutter my inbox with back and forth conversations that are constantly being misinterpreted. What are your thoughts?

Pretty sad isn't it? I think the older generation (I think), like me, keep up with the phone conversations versus the cell phones and emails. I mean, I do email people but I still do talk on the phone with my friends all the time too.
It's almost like writing out cards or letters today. Does anyone ever do that anymore? Hardly so.
I'm an Ebay dealer and whoever buys from me still gets a hand-written note thanking them for the purchase. I have had my customers comment on that and tell me how nice it is to receive a personal note.

Hi Ebony! Thank you so much for BR (Best Response).
I know you're new to myLot so I have one tiny suggestion for you if you don't mind. This discussion was very new yet when you gave me BR (much appreciated) but you might want to keep your discussions going for at least 2 weeks to start without chosing a BR. The reason being is that when people see you have already picked a BR they don't like to respond to the discussion any more because they feel they don't have a chance to win BR so why bother responding. It doesn't matter to me whether it's picked or not, if I like the discussion I'll answer anyway. Just thought I'd let you know this because the more responses you have in a discussion the more money you make. Take care hon.

Thanks. I guess I am still learning these things. I joined awhile ago but haven't started using Mylot until the other day. I appreciate the feedback.

That is so true, I was so touched when one of my friends sent me a personal handwritten letter. It is such a rare thing that I cherished that letter with all my heart. It is nice that you do have that personal touch with your customers.

Most of us spend more time on the internet. I guess that's why we use IM or email. If we were on the phone, we're distracted from the other things we can do online. If we're online we can chat with friends and multitask by doing other stuff on the computer.
A lot has changed because of technology. I mean, I talk to friends, even the ones in other countries but I talk to them on voice chat, too. Not just IM. Yahoo Voice Chat is free so I dont have to spend on long distance calls.

I know where you are coming from. I use Skype for voice chat. Is the Yahoo chat better than Skype?

LOL! I still talk on the phone and in person, quite often in fact. However, text, im, and email is VERY easy, and facebook has made social networking even easier than it was already. People have many ways of getting ahold of me, phone is pretty direct, but since I'm online a lot and have internet/email and IM on my phone, anything works really.
There are actually times when I prefer to use IM or texting, there are some situations where it's better because then people don't hear you or you don't disturb anybody. Facebook and twitter is nice because then people can respond and comment when they have time, it's not like you phoning a friend who has a kid in the bathtub while another ran outside after the dog who got out because the UPS guy showed up.... and then of course their phone is ringing.

I understand where you are coming from. People get caught up with things and you don't want to disturb them. There are lots of times when I don't want to be disturbed and talking on the phone might cause me to lose my concentration.
