How to get your book published?

I have been wanting to write a book.. story, kids stories, poems, a bit of everything, but i have no idea how to get it published. i have looked at a few places online, but the ones i h=find are either memberships, or you have to pay to get ur book in print... isnt there places i can send some samples and if they are intrested then they take more and then they publish me????
i'm really not sure how to go about it at all
does anyone know?

Well typically you would write the book and then send it to various publishers and see if any of them are willing to publish your book. Sometime's however you can send them a plan about the book you plan on writing and may some sample paragraphs or whet ever and ask them if this sort of book would be something they are interested in publishing. These days you can also self publish books. You can use a web site called LuLu, you send them your book pay a fee and they publish it for you and sell it on their site. My brother did this with a book and he was able to get his book listed on Amazon, so if no one publishes you that is an option for you.
