I feel that television and internet have made a big change in the family

I mean the communication between the family members. We watch television for hours and spend lot of time on internet as well. Our communication with the family members has reduced these days. What do you think? Do you try to compensate for this at your home?

Hello big brother, Precisely dear, the internet,tv mobile and other gadgets slowly making a communication gap in the family. One is watching tv program, one is playing from ps3,one is on the internet...the other one is busy with his/her mobile.(sad) With my kids as they are growing, they give more time with studies, and when they were at home, doing their homeworks...and after that, attending their own business(internet/mobile/ps3) But what to do?...well,for me..i rather leave them doing their things than to let them go outside house. One good thing with the net is...i am able to connect and communicate with my loved ones who lives far from me. Almost every night,i am able to chat and talk with my mom. And also with my siblings... There are advantages and disadvantages...but i look on the good sides...becoz,i don't want to picture life 30 years backward

Yes, this one of the few disadvantages of internet. But the advantages are more. Internet has given me a sister who is 4500 kms away from me-hehehe. She is very cute and good.

Yes! I see this discussion often - it's a popular topic to discuss, because it's so true. So many kids these days are isolating themselves by over-using the technological devices we have around us - tv, cell phones, computers, etc - and are losing touch with the "traditional" way of life, I guess you could say. I think it's the parents jobs to "police" their kids about using the internet too much and sitting down to spend time with the family instead. I'm a big advocate of family time, myself, although ironically enough - I had very little of it in my childhood (maybe that's why I feel it's so important). However, there ARE some instances where technology can bring people together instead of draw them apart - like some families bond over watching a TV show or movie, and cell phones allow us to chit-chat with our families and friends when we aren't at home on our land line or able to talk in person. So, in ways - it DOES draw us together, and can also isolate us from others. It's a back-and-forth kind of thing.

I think the same as you.Families spend alot less time talking as there are other things as you say tv internet as well as games machines that we all like to play on.Where as years ago there was hardly nothing like that so people spent alot of their time talking rather than entertaining themselves.

When I was a kid my mom turned the cable off and I think it was one of the best decisions she made. I still to this day as an adult don't watch tv and I'm barely on the internet when I'm home. I just don't like the wall it puts up when it's around. Talking between commercials is just not good communication.

Yes, but television and internet can help us in many ways. I think we need to learn to communicate with our loved ones with these gadgets.

I know exactly what you mean. It is true i mean either the whole family is sitting down watching tv laughing here and there sometimes then quiet as we are watching the tv. And you can find the children sitting on computer isntead of siting with their parents etc....So yeah i do try to stay away from the internet and try to spend more time with the family

Yes, it goes the same with my family. I could see that there is less communication and bonding considering that there are times that I am in my computer, my wife is using here computer and my son is watching tv. I do feel that its not good anymore since this is definitely not a good way of spending time with the family. Usually I compensate these by going out with my family once a week. Usually to the beach or to the mall and enjoy our time together without the television or computer.

It's very true. The next generation will be worst, since they grow up with TV and Internet. I guess a time will come when people switch off TV and computer just to chat. Right now TV and Internet are too new and too exciting. There will come a time when freedom means freedom from Internet bondage. There is no way to compensate, short of using text messaging and Skype for communication in lieu of face-to-face conversation.

hello there vija, that is so true, with the technology that we have now we can barely do conversations with the ones we love, most of the time being busy with what we do online and watching favorite telenovelas in the television. i noticed this in my family too that's why when we loose the computer last month, it really got me thinking on what should i do with out it. but that helped because i got to do other things.

My late grandfather used to say, before technology, people used to be happier. Neighbors used to talk to eachother and siblings used to spend more time playing together. I think he's right. Most of us are so caught up and busy with so many distraction that we neglect to engage in conversation and catch up with the daily happenings of eachother's lives. My family and I try to get together and talk about our lives and happenings every now and then. We dont do it quite often but we try to at least.

This is right we don't have much time for our family members because of TV and internet. This is a part of modern life. People talk over internet more than in real. Personally I try to give time to my family members as much as possible. But I feel that's not enough.

yes you are right. these 2 techs really made a big changes in our life, especially the kids. Kids just want to stay infront of the TV and watch nonsense, you can't even feed them already sitting together with the rest of the family in the dining table. They are the biggest factor that changes the thinking of every people especially the kids.

TV and the internet takes quality time away from siblings and families. However, it is still up to you how you manage your time. However, you can watch TV with oyour family and let it be bonding time as well.

This is true. I know a family who was almost destroyed because of the Internet. The husband of my sister was once highly addicted to Internet games, and he spent almost the whole day, every day, playing games. He hardly paid attention to his family. My sister tried to talk to him about this problem, but he didn't seem to care, so she got tired of him and looked for another man. Well, you can guess what happened after that. Pretty messy. But thankfully, they were able to fix their relationship in the end. Now they are together again (with no "extracurricular activities") and my brother-in-law is trying his best not to get addicted to computers again. I just hope they make it for the sake of my beloved nieces.

I totally agree with you .today all are busy with either watching tV or hooked to inter net for long hours.Earlier the scenario was different.there was enough time for the family members to give time to each other and communicate with them.

Televisions and internet are one of the great invention. But sometimes this invention can be the reason for having less communication with each members of the family. Communication is very important because it's the best way to understand each other. In our home, we do not lost communication because we do have family hour. This is the time when we discuss our activities in a day. We also have prayer at the end.

TV and Internet now become a part in our day to day life.Once a peron goes home from school/college/ office the most entertaining things are TV and Computer (Internet). And it has become like a family member.Because of that people are not talking between the family members by itself.

I really believe television and internet can affect your relationship with your family mainly because their attention and time are not being given to other family members. I can attest to that. What we are doing is, we often urn off the TV every mean time. Its our quality time with family. Its effective. Atleast, we have the time to catch up with each other's lives. Goodluck to you and your family!
