Wrong soup Mix!

I was cooking our lunch which is a sour soup called "sinigang" here in the Philippines. This soup was originally made by stewing tamarind and mashing them so that you can get the sour flavor. That was before, now we use ready made soup bases for this soup.
Now, I am allergic to shrimp and shellfish and there is only one brand of sinigang mix that has no shrimp in its ingredients. The only problem is their soup bases all look the same and my brother bought a few months ago "Palabok" (shrimp based seasoning for noodles). Now all of my soup and stew bases are of the same size and loo, you just have to read what it is so that you don't use the wrong one.
The reason why I cooked soup was because of my colds. My mom and I were both not feeling well and this soup is like comfort food for those who have colds. I boiled the beef, added the veggies, then added the mix. I used a spoon to measure the mix and I wondered why it turned orange. I looked at the package and it was the palabok mix. My mom was able to eat my dish, I was able to remove most of the mix on top, but I am now in agony because of my allergy.
Has this ever happened to you? I know, I should have double checked the label of the soup base but they all look the same.

Hi Anne
I have made lots of mistakes since I started cooking..in fact I made one just today that actually turned into something quite good!! I graduated from cooking school last year and am always experimenting with recipes, changing them up etc. Today I was testing apple pie toppings for my blog and for Thanksgiving dinner and was doing a struesel topping that required egg..I completly forgot the egg so that, along with a couple of intentional changes I implimented, I got a very delicious caramel/sugar cookie..When I realized my mistake it was too late as dish was already in oven and I expected a disaster. Instead I got delicious cookies that I will make again!! So sometimes mistakes arn't a bad thing at all. Of course in your case, an allergy is a different story..Sorry. Hope your feeling better. I am very interested in your soup and am wondering if you could share the whole recipe with me along with any other soups native to the Philippines. I love to learn about foods from far away places and the soup sounds very appealing. I will add you as friend as if you would be so gracious as to share recipes with me I would be very grateful..Thanks a million

Thank you for your response. It's good that your dish did not turn out as a disaster. My mom likes my soup because now it has a distinct flavor of shrimp, I just can't enjoy it that much because of my allergy.

You poor dear! I expect you are lucky it's not worse! The folks I know with a seafood allergy it is VERY serious - like run for the hopital and hope you make it. I have never heard of this soup, but we use chicken noodle or chicken rice for comfort food when we're sick. When my hubby is ill he still asks for 'chicken noodly soup, please!"
