Can the Holy Water really be contaminated with the swine flu virus? If the Catholic Church is taking precaution then it is time they tell us where this Holy Water is coming from. What do you think? I don't think that anything that is Holy can be contaminated.

I thought holy water was shipped from rome in the catholic church. I'm not sure if that's true but it's what I heard.. That being said.. holy water began with the concept of holy springs and wells that were said to cure disease and such.. many of which had mineral composites and natural astringents that are known now to kill disease. Later blessing water was done to destroy the 'demons and impurities' of the water.. this water wasn't meant for drinking though.. it had special oils, salt, and astringents in it. i have no idea what the random CHRISTIAN folks do to bless water nowadays besides waving their hands over it and beseeching god. I'm not knocking the practice, i'm just curious as to whether they dropped the material components that helped kill disease in the water.

Hi silvernutbar, the big question is can a mortal make anything Holy?. If that is possible then we have some very powerful people in the church. But this is not the case. What we have is a situation where the congregation is being misled in believing that the Holy stuff is the answer to their prayers, touching it will make them whole and free from all dangers and sickness. If the Holy Water can be contaminated then it does not possess any Godly power and that apply also to the inventors of the stuff.

Haha. Sorry I just had to give a little laugh. Just because the water is blessed doesn't mean it doesn't have germs or contaminants in it! If you could disinfect with a blessing people wouldn't be sick and Lysol would be out of business! I mean you do realize holy water is just water that has been blessed, right? There have even been cases where there was "tainted" holy water that made a child sick I believe. Or maybe I am thinking of a Family Guy episode... But still most of the holy water that comes in those plastic bottles can be tainted or get contaminated, plastic is a porous material. And holy water that people can dip their finger in at the church, well how many fingers were in there before yours? You don't know what they were doing with their hands before they touched the holy water. So yeah, it can be contaminated or have germs.

Hi BambooPanda, now I understand, Holy Water is just any water blessed by a priest. The impression I got was it was coming for a higher source and was more powerful than ordinary water. One really have to be careful, you can be Holy contaminated by some cheap water blessed by the clergy. Thanks for the info.
