Multiple Tattoos?!

When I turned 18, I got my very first tattoo. To me, tattoos are artwork that symbolize some part of you that you are very proud of or want to remember. They could also mean something important to you, maybe a remembrance of some kind. My tattoo is a bass clef and an upside down treble clef in the shape of a heart on my chest. My boyfriend didn't realize it was colored when I sent him a picture, and he didn't mind it when he thought it was just black, but now that he realizes it's neon blue and green, he doesn't like it as much. I want to get at least one more tattoo, but he doesn't want me to. The reason I am conflicted by this is because my boyfriend and I have a very strong respect for each other. He loves my body and doesn't want me to change a thing, especially with ink or metal. I respect and understand his opinion, but I am an artist and I still want to get another tattoo later on down the road. What do you think I should do? Do you think I am thinking too highly of his opinion?

Hey Indie! In my opinion... I know that you and your boyfriend have a lot of respect for each others opinion.. But its your body! You should do whatever, you want to do with your own self image.. If he loves you, he should understand.. Especially if he loves you! But don't trip girl, if you do every decide to get another one I am pretty sure that he will just be a little upset.. But in time it will pass! Have a nice day!

You're right. He does really love me and he will get over it, just like he got over the coloring in my current tattoo. :)

I have multiple tattoos and I don't let anyone dictate to me what I should or should not do with my body. That, to me, is allowing other people to have control over you. I would never do that to my boyfriend. If he wanted multiple tattoos, that's fine with me.

I feel the same. I would let him do it too.

Yes, it's nice that you two have great respect for one another, but isn't telling you what you should or shouldn't do with your body a lack of respect? My ex used to tell me if I asked him about if I should get my hair cut or another tattoo or a piercing, "it's your body, who am I to decide what you do to it?" If you want to hold off or decide not to get a tattoo because he doesn't want you too, that's great. But make sure it's ultimately what you want. Because you're the one who has to live with the decision.

If you want a tattoo then get a tattoo, dont let a man decide for you, no matter how much you respect and love him. Its YOUR body, not his.
