not a real danger - IF you are not pregnant and IF you don't practice safe handling of cat wastes If you wash your hands after handling cat waste you will not get it - its not like you are eating cat meat - like eating pork

Technically, if you practice proper sanitary habits, even pregnant women can handle cats and scoop their littler boxes. Wash your hands IMMEDIATELY after handling waste. Do not touch anything between box and sink...in fact, it would be even better to just wear disposable gloves. Then you wouldn't have to wipe off the faucet handles with soap, from having touched them with your hands to turn on the water. Even without pregnancy, it's a good idea to do this. And wash your hands after petting/handling/playing with the cat. You can also get toxoplasmosis from raw/fresh fruit, vegetables, unpasteurized milk (particularly goat), and raw meat. Just be careful about washing up after handling stuff like that, and you should be okay.
