hi,srija!
in my opinion communicating with other people is necessary but a cell phone is not.actually many students just use cell phones to send some meaningless message between each other or treat it as a fashionable toy.considering the fee of buying and using a cell phone ,and the time they waste on it,it is really unworthy to hold a cell phone for a student.
have a nice day!

Cell phones are not a requirement in anyone's life. They are a convenience of the modern world and people got along just fine before they were invented.

when I was at elementary school, we were not allowed to carry cellphones nor use them, but in High School, they did allow us to use them during break times. It was fairly a good decision in a way, because we could keep contact with friends and family during the times we need and in urgent situations. Though, later it turned out that things went little wild and they had to abandon the use of cellphones at high school. As far as the question goes, the use of cellphones at College/school does depend on the need of the community. If the students are from far away states or from another countries, they do need to carry a cellphone around. It is for the school/college to decide the rules and regulations of using cellphones.
As far as the "Distraction" and "Misbehaviour" is concerned, in a world so small, when the media became the utmost important way of communication, the use of it cannot be prohibited or abandoned. So, my opinion is, even when the rules are made and implemented, it is for the users to determine whether to go against it or not. It is you who will decide, what you do with what you have :D

I agree with you that cell phone will distract student to focus on the lesson which the professors or teacher to be taught. But I think most of the teacher and or professors will not allow student to use their cell phone inside their classes...Have a nice day!

Phones should be discouraged in high schools. More often than not, students will spend more time texting their friends than spending on their studies.
College students are usually more mature, so although they should not be required, they are acceptable.
Another downfall of cell phones in schools, however, is the ability to cheat.

I think this is the reason why cell phones are usually not allowed to be used when class has started. I think it's okay for students to have cell phones provided that they don't use it when it's time to learn. My teacher used to collect our phones before class starts so she wouldn't have that problem.

Its a necessity to college students nowadays to carry cellphone.they need it communicate with their parents during emergencies. Its up to the professor to impliment rules-it a standard procedure to turn off or put the cellphone to silent mode when inside the classroom. I already have a cellphone on my college days late 90's- our professor just remind us to turn it on a silent mode-no worries.

well i dont think mobile phones are required for school students...but college students do require them..yea it is true that some students engage in bad activities..but we must take precautions against such activities and protect ourselves from getting into those kinda things..but students in college have to do many projects and stuff and they need to keep in contact with their classmates..and their grown up and matured since they are in college ..so id say its a must for college students

Every coin has it two sides, so, I guess different people may have different ideas.
For some students, a cell phone is just a tool for fun and they have spend much time on playing their cell phones and pay no attention to their study. So, for these kinds of students, a cell phone just means a waste of time. But for others, cell phone is a really necessity. With it, their parents can keep in touch with their kids, which is useful to prevent these kids from dangers.
So, I think both teachers and parents can take some measures to limit the useage of cell phones among the kids.

I give phone to my son also. He is in primary 6 and age 11. I can't see any problem with that. Maybe he is still young, he will not do any bad things. What is the bad influence to kid with cell phones? He can't reach internet with cell phone unless you pay for such service for them.

Hi srija12,
I'm in High School and we are not allowed to use a cell phone during school hours an that includes during lunch and passing periods. They aren't as strict with this rule if you are a Junior/Senior because you are allowed to leave for lunch so if you want to use your cell phone many of us just go outside if we are a Junior/Senior. I also believe cell phones can be beneficial if students use them correctly.
Most of my teachers allow us to text them so it really does increase teacher/student communication outside of class and also allows me to talk with my other friends about homework and things fairly easy. Plus as always it provides a little extra security in case of an emergency. It might not be mandatory but highly recommended to have a cell phone just to keep up with the age and communication.

Well, I agree with you. I think school kids do not need to have a cell phone, because they still do not know the usefulness. If a student, it's okay by me, as long as they use it well, not haphazardly call here and there just to chat unnecessarily. In my country, most parents had bought their kids cell phone, even a child is still a grade 1st primary school, imagine that! I once asked the reason for a friend who bought mobile phone to her child, why it's such a small child in the given confidence to have a cell phone, and the answer is because the friend does not want her daughter disappear when picked up at school. I think, the reason it does not make sense. Cellular phone that can be stolen even when the child is napping. Second, a child so do not focus to learn, time is only used to write a message or talk on cell phone to her friends, they do not think the cost to buy a pulse, so that their parents spending swelled. This is sad ...

Hello there! Well, cell phone is a necessity nowadays. But as a limitation, it must be used properly and the user must be responsible enough to control addiction from it that may cause interference to studies. It is very useful because most phones can access the internet so it can help the students who don't own a computer to do their research work, as well as for posting in here like I do. It can be installed with some applications such as power point, MS word, PDF reader, and other useful softwares that a computer has. But it still depends on the user on how they use it and on how it can affect their studies. Have a nice day!

Students are always going to find something that will be their distraction, rather it be doodling, a cellphone, or a laptop. The thing though is cellphones are great for students because of the fact they are mobile. I probably only spend 12 hours max at home each day during the week and 8 of those hours are me sleeping so therefore if someone wants to get in contact with me its best for them to have my cellphone to call. Otherwise they'll have to wait till I'm at home to receive a call back. Plus landlines are expensive and since students have cellphones as a safety feature for while their driving etc. its best not to have that extra expense put on them.

We should understand that cell phones are now a part of our lives & it has became a necessity. So We can't say that college students will get distracted. Well, they have better things to get distracted like a hot girl & never cell phones. But for school going students, I don't think they really need it because they are still young & they won't know how to use it properly. So once they reach atleast 16 or more, cell phones are their right.
Happy Lotting

I think school children should not be allowed to take cellphones to school. It is not a good habit.moreover it will increase the chance of the students to distract their mind.school authorities should make a check on such activities as the mobile phone is really a hindrance in studies.
