Do you like the fact that you are getting old? I am liking it still now. But I shiver at the thought of loosing all my hair and teeth, having wrinkled skin. I have a long way to go before all that happens but I guess the old do not like that idea. My mother for one keeps trying to dye her hair and stay young. I just cannot make her understand that there is no point in trying and to be happy the way she is. Of course she shouts at me for telling her these things. So how do you feel about getting old?

Getting old is a fact that we are all going through someday... Nobody can avoid it, not unless die young.
But it is also okay, that even if you are old in age, you still try to fix yourself by coloring your gray hair. That is not bad after all. Stop telling the old ones not to dye their hair, they just wanted to look and feel good, as everybody... It is not fair, just because they are "old" they don't have the right anymore to do what they please.

You mean red dye?? Oh I thought your mom is coloring her hair with brown or black, or the same color as her natural hair... Well your mom is so groovy!
If you don't like the color maybe you could suggest her something else. Like tell her that this bla blah blah color is more okay with her.

I don't mind getting old because it's the cycle of life and we cannot prevent it from happening. What I'm scared most is getting old alone without the people I love. I know I have to be prepared, but I think I will be more prepared when I am a year older each year.
Oh, my mom loves to dye her hair, too. I guess there's nothing wrong in doing that. She's young at heart and at least she's happy with what she's doing.

I guess everybody had worried about getting old at one point in their lives. I worry of the time I am too old and wrinkled that I would look like a raisin! LOL.
But the truth is that I feel better than I have ever been in my twenties. I guess age is just a state of mind. You are just as old or as young as you feel, right?

Well, I guess everybody would prefer to be in their twenties forever! LOL!
Even if I am enjoying myself right now, I find nothing wrong with liking to be twenty something!
I guess the harm would just be when you get to be too obssessed with staying young right?

Getting too obsessed with anything can cause harm. However, I think, after a certain age everybody thinks of staying young. I said everybody because all the people I know have said this same thing. Nobody really likes getting old. One cannot stop aging so they accept it but it is one of those fairy tale kind of hope that they will stay young.

It doesn't bother me a bit. As I see my children getting older they still consider me the 'cool' mom so I figure as long as a person stays young at heart then they will always be happier with themselves and what is around them.

Well i think every age structure we enter has its own charm. So will be the old age i love to enjoy every age i am going through. Now as i am young i do of course feel that my youth should stay forever, and i want to look beautiful always. But nothing stays forever as per me.So i think it is only good when you go along with nature.

Well, I don't like the idea of dieing but I do accept it as it is the circle of life and no one can stay alive forever. I think life has it purpose and we can only achieve it with only one life span. I'd take immortality though, thats if my girlfriend and family were also immortal.

I hate the idea of immortality. I mean, I do not like this world at all, with all the problems and wars and all other things. It is really hard to find anything positive in this mess except for your family. And guess what, children do not even respect their parents anymore. They simply throw their parents away. There is nothing in this world for which I would like to stay here forever. The thought disgusts me.

losing your teeth is lack of taking care of them, getting grey hair is genetic, wrinkles show life has been lived well, it doesn't bother me in the least, a few more months i'll be 60 with bad knees 1 less kidney from cancer but every day i wake up is a plus, grab my fishin pole and hit the beach, it's life enjoy it to the fullest

Wow, it is great to hear someone of 60s living his life to the fullest. My father is 62 years old and he looks like 50. He just does not seem to get old. He does so much and enjoy his life all the time. He is mainly the reason my mother gets all messed up about looking aged. She looks a bit older than him and that hurts her feelings.

sagnik42,
James Dean once said: “Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.”
Aging is a natural process and it is inevitable. But, is the graying of hair, wrinkling of face, skin and body anything scarier than living a life in vain? It is not easy to accept the physical changes with old age but I do not think there is to be afraid and worry than our children and charges under us.
“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.” Maria Robinson.
Take care.

I can't say I like growing old. However, it is a fact of life & I plan to do it gracefully!!! I dyed my hair for a good number of years & then I decided I had had enough!!! Anybody that doesn't like me because I'm old is more than welcomed to kiss my asss!!!

I don't even think of myself getting old. I want to stay young, but time passes and everyday there are many changes, We have to accept that it's life. The age are just added but our minds still the same. Ok let me share this, i never see my friends for almost a year now, but when we had a chance to see each other she noticed that my look is getting mature, and i can see that i'm getting old little by little. Now i have to look younger and prefer not to wear too much make up so i look fresh. Stress should also be avoided and don't think too much. I really don't want to get old.

Getting old is the nature of us human beings and I believe that there are no people who can avoid getting old sooner or later.
For most people, especially these young and strong men, they won't be worried about the age. But someday, when they find they are losing hair and teeth gradually, or other indications that tell people they are getting old, then, people tend to want to stay young and try their best to avoide getting old.
In my eyes, it is useless to lay too much emphasis on getting old because it is just an inevitable thing. Instead, perhaps we should pay more attention to the current life.

So your point is 'Live this moment to the fullest', right? I believe in this but still somehow tend to think about the old age, how I will look like and all. I see my grandmother and wish I could be as active and sane as she is at her age. She is 90 years old and still does almost every household work with ease.

Hello friend, I don't like getting old.Although I know being old is a natural to everyone in the world, and no one can change it.But I must say I just like being a child and never get old. When I found little children playing games with innocent laugh, I would remember my happy childhood. It's so beautiful and I can live happily without concerning everything.I just want to say I don't want grow up.But when I found my grandparents and parents getting old I give up being child,as I have duty to take good care of them.

hi sagnik,
Honestly, I feel a little old now...I'm 26 but I feel as if I'm 96... Because of the responsibility I have... and the things I need to do which keeps on bugging me...hehe! But you know, whether we like it or not we will get old...and we will understand how "oldies" feel.. All we gotta do is live our life one step at a time and enjoy everyday of it. Yeah! sometimes, some old people are hard to understand like my "lola" (grandma)...haha.. but I need to understand her situation..because time will come I will get old (i mean really old!) and I hope I will not be snub and stubborn like her. Hahaha (i'm sorry grandma!)
Happy Lotting!

Men and women have different feelings about getting old. True, that the saying is "You are only as old as you feel" does have some truth in it. But it isn't just about the emotions side, but also the physical side. Women dread getting wrinkles and sagging skin while men don't care much. Some men look more handsome when they get older (See Sean Connery). But for me, the part is not so much about my looks, but the strength of my body that also fails away. I cannot sleep after midnight anymore, otherwise I become dizzy in the morning. I cannot run as fast, or eat as much, or carry heavy loads, because all your body will ache. I cannot sit in front of a blower or direct fan of an air condition, cause it makes me sick directly, etc...etc. And have you ever thought that getting old also means you have to prepare yourself to exit this world sooner ?

definitely not.. i know its unavoidable but i dont wanna talk about it that much. i mean maybe i'll worry about it later... when i get old :) but anyways.. we're all gonna get there sooner or later. lets just make sure that we are prepared and somehow accomplished good thing before we get old and cant go out anymore.
