Facebook stores our photos and informations on their server even after we deleted them. If you read their terms of service carefully, you'll notice it. They also have the right to use it and distribute it.
This is so uncool especially when one of your friends uploaded a photo of you that you don't want others to see. After they uploaded it, our photo will remain on facebook forever, no matter what we say or do.
So what do you think, fellow mylotters?
Do you think facebook invades our privacy?

I think that if you have read the TOS which is recommended for any site, and you still sign up, if they take your photos etc, then well it's really not their fault. They did warn you and yet you still signed up. However, at the same time, if you aren't a member but a friend is, and he or she uploads a picture of you, then that would be cause for alarm and for making sure said photo is deleted from both the person's profile and the server, that is of course, if that's what you want to do.
Of course, I mean Generally speaking and not you personally.

I think forever is a bit of an exageration--all serves mess up and break down from time to time. MSN has totally taken down and supposedly scrubbed all their servers clean, but who really knows? I had pics uploaded there and I am not going to worry the rest of mylife about who's hands they may be in now.
Facebook does not invade privacy any more than we want it to. Only put information about yourself and your loved ones that you want the world to see. And don't be fooled by their privacy settings. Nothing is truly private, online. Someone somewhere is seeing it. That goes for all internet sites. Photos are uploaded by the millions every day, just think of your photo as being one in a million and think very carefully about posting private information. I love facebook and other social networking sites, such as myspace, youtube, yuku, twitter, but my eyes are very much open about how easily things can be traced as well everyone's should be before venturing into the online social life.

Maybe you're right. We shouldn't demand too much provacy since we entered the online world and put our informations here. I'd be more careful then dealing with every internet site.

well, they are pretenders out there, that's why sometimes we have to keep some of our vital information private all the time. i have youtube, and twitter but i don't use my real name there. not even in here i think. but i do have it only in face book as other mylot members know my real name there.

I've always valued my privacy so I really don't wanna join social websites like facebook. I've been very active online but I never really care to be active in social websites because I don't want my profile to be displayed to people. Well it depends actually to one's desire. There are those who wants to have more friend and be popular and would willingly share every thing about their life, their personal details, their photos, their activities and anything they do under the sun. Well that is their own prerogative. But as for me, I think I am not really enjoying that kind of thing.

I begin to get bored with social media like facebook as well, so now I use it only to play games with my friends.

hello nooveggies, that's one of the main reason why i didn't like face book. the real name itself is already private for me. but since my brothers are already active to it then i decided to join, probably a contingency plan just in case mylot becomes offline or in a state of maintenance again. i am not putting to much information on facebook.

I do think its a little weird that they can keep stuff after we delete our accounts, so yes, I agree in that sense.
But, we know this. So in the end, it is up to us to be responsible for what we put out there. I am always amazed by people who put their cell phone numbers or whatever on their profiles!
I do find it a bit weird when friends put up photos of me - I have a bit of a body image thing going on and the photos I put online tend to have been filtered or cropped enough for me to feel ok putting up - then a dear friend puts up a photo of me looking horrible.....lol....suppose I should get over it though!

That's exactly how I felt. Some members of facebook seems to ignore or doesn;t understand the fact that facebook keep everything on their server after we delete it too.

I do NOT have a Facebook account and have never looked at the site, but from what I understand, their tos are clearly set out. Since no one is forced to use Facebook and everyone who does is told of the terms and conditions, it can hardly be concluded that Facebook invades our privacy.
I suppose it could be possible that a friend or family member could have loaded a photo without the permission of everyone in the photo, which I would think would be a breach of tos. I would load my own photo here, but not that of anyone else - or at least not without their permission.

I wouldn't upload any photos if my friends without their permission either, but sometimes my friends upload something I don't want others to see. This bothers me.

I do not think they "invade" privacy. Nobody is forced to open an account. Nobody is forced to upload pics. This is the reason I don't do social networking sites with my own name. That info is there forever.

I am not a member of facebook. I do not think I would want to become a member of facebook becase of this policy. I am allready a menber of other social networing siteys and that is good enought for me. I think a website sould delete personal infromation if you are no logner a member.

Perhaps there are some inappropriate things in Facebook indeed, I don't think Facebook invade our privacy.
With the popularity of Facebook and other social network sites, more and more choose to be members of them. But as we all know, before we join Facebook, we should have been familiar with their guidelines and follow their terms when we have joined it. That is to say, no one is forced to use Facebook and everyone who join Facebook are of their own accords.
Of course, I think Facebook should take some more measures to keep our privacy safe, which is their duty.

This is the world wide web, anything you put in here, not just on facebook.... you just need to analyze first before putting it. It will invade our privacy so might as well think before posting it or uploading it. Thats why some people upload a few pictures only. even if you uplod on friendster, flickr this will remain in the word wide web even you delete it.

Simply put, internet doesnt keep seceret. Privacy items on basically on term and condition of the sites. No privacy you and I and others access the content of the site.

As far as my opinion is concern. Facebook does not invade our privacy because they set on their Term of Service about those guidelines that must bind for members and facebook. That if you sign up you must first read the ToS then if you accept it meaning you agree for the terms and your privacy being waive in that case...
If you feel that facebook indeed invade your privacy don't sign up in their because that is against your privacy...have a nice day!
