I was just watching the movie "mad money "starring Queen Latifah and in it one of her co-stars (I forget her name now)says that anyone is capable of anything. Now looking into this statement I think there is a certain element of truth to it.Now I would liek to think that we all have a morality but many of us are only able to keep to this moral code because we have either never been tempted or we were never in a situation where our life may be depended on us breaking that code.Take for example our stance on not killing ,many of us would say with almost knee-jerk reaction that we would nver kill but what if some had a knife to our throat and we had an opportunity to wrestle the knife away form him and kill him ,would you ?. Or maybe our children were being threatened, and we could do something about it by killing ,I am thinking we would.Another scenario ,we are starving for death and we see a nice plate of food through someone's window and the door is open ,would you stick to a moral code or would you break it ? The statement hoever doesnt have to be interpretted as all bad ,it could mean that poor little you form humble beginings may aspire and actually one day be teh president ot the Unites States of america So in concluding do you agree that you are capable of doin anything or do you think that there are somethings that you wont do irrespective of circumstance ?

I don't hink Everyone is capable of Everything. There are things some people would never ever do and there are other people who Can and will do Anything. Me, I have always feared that statement that you can do anything you put your mind to. I get the most evil thoughts at times and to think I can do Any of it by just putting my mind to it is scary.

I used to think that anyone could do anything that they wanted bad enough. However, that was before I was a tutor on a college campus for a semester. I have never had more of a slap in the face from reality in my life. Students would come in, so so distressed, and in need of help. They wanted to succeed so badly. Yet, no matter how hard I worked or how many teaching strategies I tried and no matter how much they wanted to do well it didn't work out. With a great deal of work on both our parts, a grade just above passing could be achieved. It truly was a blow to my idealistic outlook on life. Sometimes there are somethings that you simply cannot do. The best you can hope for is squeaking by with an average grade or average success. However, this is a fact of all humans. Do not despair. There is something that you can do better than others. Just do not be surprised if it is something that is more down to earth that being a CEO or a professional politician.

I had a smailar situation with a grade I was teaching and I couldnt believe that persons could have been so limited in their capabilty .The only justification for this may lie in the fact that these students had a poor foundation to start with and also we didnt get a long enough chance to change their circumstance

I enjoyed reading your response very much and I have to agree with you wholeheartedly. There are somethings that we just cannot do but nonetheless, I do believe that there are some things we can do better than others. Cheers.

I think people are alot more capable of doing things than they think. They have to be put in that situation to realoxe what they might do. these good , goody 2-shoes that sit up 7 SAY THET WOULD OR WOULDN'T DO THINGS ARE FULL OF IT. wOULD I KILL SOMEONE WHO WAS MISTREATIN MY CHILDREN OR GRANDCHILDREN, YES SIR I WOULD IN A NEW YORK MINUTE, Would i steal food for my kids if they were hungry & that was the only way i could feed them, yes sir i would. I hope it never comes to any of these things but i would do anything for my kids, their wives & their wonderful children.

I think we are ALL capable of anything with the exception of the moral dilemma. I prefer to think most people stop & think about what they are about to do. However, a mother with her child in danger will respond like a wild tigress. When it's kill or be killed, I think ANY of us would defend ourselves accordingly. One question you missed...if a bug is crawling across the floor, would you squish it or let it go???

Hello my friend ronnyb Ji, I would say that , it goes with another saying that 'NOTHING IS IM-POSSIBLE'. It all depends upon circumstances, where one is forced to adopt un-wanted and un-pleasent acts to save oneself to keep oneself alive. May be that one might steal / murder and so on. I think, this theory also hold good for survival of human-beings. So I would support your discussion that, 'Are we are all capable of anything'. May God bless You and have a great time.

I advise to see Milgram's Obedience to Authority Experiment and the Stanford Prison experiment to see that in the right circunstances we can do not only the best thinks but also the worst

I think we are all capable of many things but some people are limited with money and with physical abilities and knowledge. We can be held back by many things but if we set a goal within reason, it can be achieved.

I think we're all capable of doing anything, you might say you would never do anything vicious like that but when our survival instincts kick in there's no telling what we'll do or could do.

I kind of agree with you that we are capable of doing anything but I also disagree because I believe there are some people who would not kill or steal like in the examples you gave while some would. It is still differnt strokes for different folks. I believe history has stories of people who refused to do the wrong thing and overcame.

I have to believe that each one of us is capable of doing anything we set our minds to. Some of us just need a little more motivation than others. If we didn't think we could do something, we would see it as fsilure. Failing is not an unacceptable goal for anyone to have.

When I was very young, I thought that I was capable of doing anything as long as I wanted. But now, when I am growing up gradually, I have to say that it is impossible for us to do everything well. When we are meeting a task or a problem, it is easy for some people to do or to solve it easily, but for others, they can do nothing but to give up. In fact, even if we are capable of doing anything, we don't have so much energy to do them well all the time. In a word, we are just capable of something that we are good at. If you have no interests in something, it is next to impossible for you to finish it timely.

Two points i'd like to point out: First YES we are capable of doing anything. knowing that we are created by God in his own image and like makes as capable of doing something, something normal, ordinary, or even beyond ordinary. we only have to will it, we can do it but certain amount of discernment. Second, while circumstances sometimes push us to the wall, let us remember that miracles happens in a less expected way and circumstances. I do still believe God will intervene for the things my human capacity is limited to. I hope you believe that too...

What you have just described is part of our human trait 'survival instinct'. I also saw the movie 'Mad Money' and it shows us what women can do to survive from any money problems/needs to also help family members survive. All humans have 'survival instinct' but it will only emerge when we badly need it. For example, if you see someone bullying your kid at school, what will be your first instinct? If you are feeling hungry, what is your first instinct? If you ran into some muggers, what is your first instinct? Factors to be considered also is human's status in life. I had an assignment before in my psychology class about 'ethical dilemma' where a husband had to steal a rare medicine (not available anywhere) from a doctor's clinic. Only this medicine can help his dying wife survive. He's got no money to buy the medicine from the doctor, but tried to negotiate and failed. The doctor was not very considerate, so the husband stole the medicine instead and eventually helped his wife survived. The question is, "Should the husband be punished to what he did?" Lucky for me, my teacher was very considerate and gave me an A- to my answer. What do you think?

Hi ronnyb, That may be a question that many would find hand to answer unless they were in the situation. I have never been starving and so can't really say to what depths I would sink if I really were. I hope that I would not kill another but I, like most, would probably steal. If the only way to safe my child was to kill another, I probably would. It's very easy to talk about the things we would do, but I feel certain it would be much different is we were in the situation. Blessings.

Before I became a mother I would have answered this question by saying that what one would be prepared to do would depend on the situation they were in but there is a moral limit as to how far I would personally go. Now that I have a child I still feel the same way except that if she was ever in danger and her life was threatened or pain was caused to her there is nothing I would not do to ease her suffering and save her life; once you have a child your own life is just not as important. Looking at it another way are we all capable of doing anything? I think we are capable of at least trying!

I think there are limits - I mean, I will never be a professional gymnast - I have arthritis and my body is just not going to bend that way! And people do have different levels of intelligence, different opportunities, sometimes money comes into it, all that sort of thing. I have often come up against the fact that because of health issues there are some things I literally can't do, physically. And I find it just as hard every time because at the same time, I am also the sort of person who believes deep down that if something is impossible then I really need to go and do it...lol When I was young (my arthritis was diagnosed at 10) I had some very negative Doctors (and sadly, family) around me telling me that I should give up all the performing stuff I was doing because it was too hard on me physically. So I got a degree in drama, went to drama school, and my plan is still eventually to start my own theatre company. So, erm, a big NYYAAAAH to them. As for being capable of any evil - yeah, probably. Be afraid.....
