I used to use a coffee can. Now I have one of those nifty counter jars! It cost about $10, I think. Now I know how much I have in it! Granted, it's nice to have a 'secret' amount...also helps to keep you from spending it, if you're not sure how much is in there anyway. However, the counter might be even better for that, because if I took any out, I'd have to put the rest in all over again to get the new total! So... I'm hoping I can save more (and spend less), with this nifty device. At the moment, I have $7.67 USD in it.

Nice. I recently cashed in my coins and got about twenty dollars which is pretty good for 6 months of savings. Now I'm starting over again.

those are pretty cool and take the guess work of counting and all. the cheapest i have seen them for is about $20- though, too rich for my blood! right now we are using a tin with a slot on the top. it was used to hold suckers and is in the shape of an old fashioned milk can.

I've been using a plastic coffee container, filled it up and ended up with over $300.00 in it, used it this past summer for me and my two boys to go on a short vacation, it paid for the gas there and back.
I went and bought a little coin counter that drops the change into coin rolls, when they get full I put them in a box in the closet and try to forget about them because I know if I go and count it, see how much is there, I'll want to cash it in & spend it and if I do that, there won't be a little vacation next summer for us.
I could use it as an emergency fund too, if I have to....but wait....I don't know exactly how much is there so it might not help out much....I try to find other alternatives to take care of minor emergencies. (gas, milk, bread, odds & ends)
