My name means pristine - pure. And I was named after a saint, as per custom. They said that naming a person after a saint makes that saint an eternal protector of the person. What about you? Was there any particular reason why you were given your name? Names usually have interesting origins. What's the story behind your name? Thanks for your contribution.

Unfortunately, and boringly enough, there isn't really any story behind my name! It's just what my parents decided to name me. They said that they were naming me after Alyssa Milano (an American actress who's pretty famous) but I personally can't see the connection!

Hi jen!
Nice to know that your name was named after a Saint’s name. My name is Deepak as you know. It is a Hindi language word. It means an small earthen lamp, which when lit with the help of cotton and oil in it give light. It, is, therefore, I give light to others.

My parents named me Ruth after the Ruth in the Bible, and apparently it means 'friend' which I would assume comes from the Biblical story, as that Ruth left her own country because of her devotion to her mother in law, to go with her.
I actually moved countries myself, funnily enough, and I married an American, and I had Ruth's words put into my wedding vows - 'your people will be my people', etc.
My middle name, Elizabeth, was after my Grandmother.

Well according to my mum, my name was chosen because of a princess. My dad says it's because of the lead singer of Fairport Convention.
It means "Defender of Man" which always makes me laugh because it makes me think I should be prancing about in spangly tights!

My name is Vijay which in the ancient Sanskrit language of India and also in the National language Hindi means Victory. Now i guess i do not have to explain why i have been named thus. This is a very common name in my country and a very famous movie star of India ,Mr Amitabh Bacchan has adopted this name in all his films.During the olden days or the days when i was young and even before that parents used to name their children after the names of saints and also the gods of which India has thousands like Shiva, Ram, Vishnu etc.People thought that when they call their children by their names they would inadvertently be taking the name of a God or a saint and would receive a silent blessing from them.

Hi jenaisle. My name is Eduardo(Edward in english) and it basically means Guardian. There is not a story behind it. I was named Eduardo because my mom like that name thats all. My middle name is Xavier, and i was named like that because of my uncle. Xavier means new house(dunno how that turned on a name but i like it anyway).

My mom named me Marianne which was derived from Mary and Anna. In Hebrew, Mary means bitter and Anna is gracious.. waaah!. Also, when i was born, there's a famous actress named "Marian dela riva". So that's how my name came out. I even had my second name of Aissa (which is don't like) that came from "Aiza Seguerra".

My name means - "Priyam " - love in english. It is really a good discussion to start Jenaisle. This is the most common name in our place. There is no such origin like family name or something. It is simple and means love. THat's it.

My name means "pearl" in Latin. And yes, there is a saint who has my name. When I was born it was unthinkable to burden a child with a "heathen"name.
Anyway I have seen people much older than I whose parents were interested in the Russian revolution. They named their poor children Lenin, and even Stalin. Fortunatly in my country you can change your name when you are of age.
Happy posting, pristine!

My name is Alyssa but not like Alyssa Milano its pronounced A-lee-sa. It's apparently from a French region and it means noble and gentle. I don't think my parents had any reason to name that but I know my dad gave me the name!
