A friend of mine is an artist and keeps up on all the newest trends, art news,etc.etc. She sent me an article today about a possible find that art experts believe they have identified. It is an original daVinci. Apparently a swiss collector who remains annoymous (and I see why) bought a piece titled "Profile of the Bella Principessa" at an art gallery in New York for about $19,000. The previous owner sold it after owning it for about 11 years and bought it for about the same price. When the collector saw the painting in the gallery, he thought it might be a diVinci although that seemed far fetched. Friend and colleges said "Thats ridiculous, There's no such thing as a daVinci floating around" The collector started researching it and found that diVincis fingerprints were found on the painting and that they matched fingerprints from da Vinci's St Jerome in the Vatican. Multispectral images of the painting were taken by the Lunminere Technlogy Lab in Paris who used a special digital scanner to show sucessive layers of the work. Thru this equipment they were able to make a little smudge a very readable fingerprint. Technical, stylistic and material composition evidence also point to it being a daVinci and the general consensus among art experts is that it is true. If it is true the work has been labeled priceless and could take 150 million dollars if ever sold..Do you think there is really a original da Vinci out there that was hanging in someones living room for years? I guess it is possible and would like to be the owner of that piece!! What do you think?

Hi bird..Yes I'm sure there are hundreds of fakes out there but somehow I don't think this is the case here as extensive research has been done by some real art experts and the fingerprint thing is pretty convincing..What a great thing for the art world to have the "Masters" work turn up soooo many years later..its just fantastic..Thanks for the post J
