I created this discussion with the purpose of gaining more knowledge in choosing the better laptop and being updated as well. The emergence of laptops is fast and it just makes the consumers confuse on what laptop to choose. Yes, the answer may be depends on how you are going to use it, but beyond that, maybe you can give us some tips on choosing wisely. The emerging of small laptops are growing now and more and more people make it a preference, but are those small laptops powerful? Can you suggest what is the most powerful among those small laptops? How about the brand, what can you recommend? Another existing factor now being considered is the battery life. There's a laptop now which can stay for 12 hours. It's really a factor to consider by the consumer. How about the screen, what do you prefer, the small one or the large one? Me, I prefer the large one for better viewing and editing. It should also be partnered with a good video card. Another thing to consider is the hard disk, we should go for the large one, at least 320Gb. For the RAM or memory, I prefer at least 2GB. Let's share our thoughts, what are your preferences? What are the things to consider in buying a laptop? You can also give tips and recommendations. I will be glad to hear from you. Happy myLotting!

I have a Toshiba right now that has the right memory and is doing great since I am always on the go. But if I have money soon I will go and get an Apple for myself. But since I am used to having Windows I am still thinking if I am going to change my laptop or keep it to this since I love to scan thru websites and nothing else. But it all boils down to what the laptop is for and how long will you be using it in a day.

It's pretty hard to talk about laptop preferences, it all depends what you need it for. THere's a bit diffenrece between needing a powerful laptop for gaming or what you need is a small laptop just for suring the web. Personally I prefer a pretty simple laptop, but the newest specs (don't want to pay that much), but powerful enouh so I don't have to wait for everything. No no smaller than 15,4" screen.

Hi there and smile! For smart buyers, always check the product feature and specifications. If you know that you are not knowledgeable in information technology, then you can always consult or ask the opinion of your IT friends. I always consult my It friend whenever i buy gadgets for me. So far, so good. I didnt end up having regrets buying things that are not really good quality. happy mylotting.

Laptop nowadays is not expensive as it is first introduce in the market. But choosing a good is really hard because companies manufacturing a laptop is competing each other and introduce new one and have a new features. But I suggest when going to buy a laptop that choose those new that having core2dou processor or quadcore, capable of upgrading up to 6 or 8 gig RAM(memory)DDR3 or DDR4 if there is with 512 VGA and or higher 160 or high capacity of HDD, with wifi and bluetooth capable. This is the basic when choosing a good one and other features will be secondary...The important thing is that processor, memory,VGA and HDD. Because these the fundamentals of one computer to perform better. Plenty of RAM is a good choices...Don't install vista as operating system. I suggest you to use windows 7 much better and faster to load than vista... Look also for specification if their is what they called SLI or scalable link interface. SLI is good for running one or more video in the system. Look HDI controller or hi definition controller...have a nice day!

The brand that I have for laptop is HP. When I bought a laptop, I need to check its configuration that suitable for my need. And then will be the price that I prefert to spend. The brand is less important but I should be having good service for backup and techical support.

hp laptops are the beteter to use even apple are also better bu twill take lot of time to rplace the spare parts if any damage happens so better to choose like acer,hp,lenova and which are good in memory and accessing and not problematic type so better t buy a new one and dont go to olds more over i always prefer you to go for desktop easy way to work than laptop but even though the laptops are very portable to carry.

Its pretty complicated thing you have asked there. It totally depends upon your pocket and budget. Obviously everyone's suggestion would be that you buy the latest laptop which just arrived in the market. In my opinion, you only must go after quality not the price at all. You should go for Hewlett Packard latest laptop because the real meaning of a laptop is that how durable and efficient working is your laptop. I personally have used products of Hewlett Packard like laptops and printers like in cellphone I only recommend and suggest Nokia because its the best in durability and its quality. Now about the specifications. Every coming day all the accessories of a computer or laptop are increasing. I guess by the time you will be reading this many more Gegabytes would be added and newly available in hard disks, so go for the latest and above all you didn't mention in your discussion that for which purpose you want to buy laptop. I mean will you just play games on it or go some graphics work?

Hi, mark. First, let me tell you what i have. I have a HP Pavilion dv 2700 notebook pc with 1.66-1.67 Gz Core 2 Duo multiprocessor; 2 GB DRAM; 160 GB SATA HDD; Heaps of ports including an expansion port, graphics card, and HDMI; 900 MB of dedicated graphics memory, NVidia GeForce 128 MB Graphics card; 24/8x CD-DVD-DVDRAM writer with Lightscribe dic labelling, fingerprint reader, and all other features of a general laptop. The battery backup is around 2.5 hours. And whats more.. it was a low range laptop around 1.5 yrs ago just for Rs 45000 (around $980). I run nearly every high end game on it smoothly. Moreover, it gives much better performance than my friends` desktop PCs with similar configurations. So, just remove this doubt that laptops are not powerful. The present generation of PCs is for laptops and the profit being that they provide mobility. Now, In terms of power, you can not always rate. But, if you keep those business laptops and high range PCs out of the discussion, then i would recommend HP and Sony as the best brands for medium range laptops. At present, these companies provide reliable products within and around the price that i mentioned. Moreover, Sony is more reliable in terms of defects while HP provides the best performance with style. As for a choice, i would like to purchase a laptop just like mine, but with upgraded features, like 500 GB HD, 3 GB RAM, 1 GB graphics card, a 2.4 GHz quad core processor (that is the highest available for laptops now), 24 hrs battery backup (with solid state devices, they are to be launched shortly) etc...bla bla bla. As for a choice in battery, one does not really need very high backup if he/she works mostly in cities (where power is available 24 hrs) as i do. Also, for a choice of screen, i love 14.1` always. It is just accurate for high mobility. A smaller one does not provide good game experience, and a larger one causes a decrease in mobility as well as loosening of the screen hinges. For purchasing a laptop, i would also consider the company that provides good servicing facilities, in case there is an inevitable problem.

You should consider the brand in looking for a laptop not the one whose name is just new to the market besides you can surf & compare which is better of them all. It really matters what preferences do you like.
