NaNoWriMo Challenge - How is it coming along for those participating this year?

Just wondering how everyone is coming along with the NaNoWriMo challenge (National Novel Writing Month). How many words are you up to so far? Are you getting frustrated? Have you experienced that negative inner critic screaming at you in the back of your head and, if so, what are you doing to shut that critic up? I broke 20,000 words yesterday and battling my inner critic constantly.

Per usual, I struggled and fought to get to 5000 words and then I just kind of lost motivation. It's amazing.... I can write and write and write on here or on a blog but as soon as I sit down to do what I had intended to do my whole life (write novels), I have no words. I just stare at the blank screen and the blinkety blink of the cursor, taunting me, daring me to write something...anything. And then, after sitting there, staring, for twenty or thirty minutes, I give up and find something else to do.

You know, don't let the challenge intimidate you. I hate the pressure of having to do a certain amount of words a day, myself. I'm like you - I can write and write on a blog, but once I sit down to write something else, I'm stuck and staring or thinking "I SUCK!". This is my first time participating in NaNoWriMo but I've always wanted to write something longer. Honestly, I'm treating is as a blog or an email. I'm writing as though I am writing a letter addressed to someone because that's the only way I can feel a bit inspired. Keep on with it! :)

That's a great idea (writing it as a letter). I might have to try that sometime. Continued good luck with NaNoWriMo!

It's not even the challenge that is giving me fits. It's writing lately. Like I said, nonsense like posting on forums or writing on my blog is nothing...piece of cake. But fiction....or really anything with more than 100 words, I can't seem to finish an article for Associated Content either lately ..... has become Mt. Fuji of a mystery to me in recent months.

Sounds like you are doing great with NaNoWriMo. I just got caught up in other things I have to do this month, and although I signed up, I haven't written a thing. I don't think I was mentally prepared for it to start, and so every day just kept passing me by. I guess I will have to either try it on my own another month or wait till next year, but You Go! You are doing Great!!

Thanks! I have to admit, I completely slacked off this weekend. I wanted to write but my heart wasn't in it and things just had to be done. I think it's been good, the deadline and all that, just for motivating me to write on a daily basis. :)
