I took on a job as a newspaper motor route carrier a year ago. The pay was decent even tho the hours weren't. I took on more responsibilities and was paid for it until the circulation mgr was ousted. I kept doing the extra work for 3 months, but wasn't paid for it. I did say something about it but still wasn't paid. Now there's a new circulation mgr and he's trying to go to bat for my back pay. My husband says I was screwed and shouldn't have any loyalty. But I've always been in management and feel bad for the new guy. I just put in my 2 day notice last night. I usually give 1 month if the relationship is good, so I feel bad for the new guy. I'm going to talk with the new guy but the upper mgmt/owner doesn't seem to care. My next step is to take them to small claims court for $600. I'm so pissed!!! Am I going in the right direction? I need a break and feel so cheated. Opinions? Suggestions?

I would take them to small claims court. you definitely shouldn't keep working for them if you aren't getting paid.

I think this is going to be a personal call! If it was me with my personality, I would go for the small claims court, I'm sorry about the bad feelings, but in business and money matters, it's not good to let feelings alter important decisions such as your welfare and future! Like I said, it's gonna be totally up to you, because you are right in the middle of it !

All newspapers are having a hard time. They should pay you what you have earned. I think you need to give at least the standard two week notice. Don't let their bad actions lead you to act badly as well.
