For Dog Owners: Oatmeal Shampoo For Dogs

I was wondering, for dog owners on mylot, what type of shampoo do you think is appropriate for dogs with sensitive skin? I have a dog that can only use Oatmeal Shampoo. Believe me, we tried different types for sensitive skin but she tends to have rashes and sometimes, her skin has "dry flakes" in reaction to other types of shampoo. It seems like the only one she can use is Oatmeal. At times, the store doesn't have it so we have to go to a number of shops to find the particular type that she can use. I've also tried green tea shampoo but that didn't cut it either. So, if anyone has had a dog with similar issues, what's your remedy and what advice can you give? Thank you in advance.

I don't bathe my dog as he does not smell like a dog (in fact, he smells sweet like pancakes!). I say, if oatmeal works for you than stick with it. Stock up and buy several bottles of oatmeal shampoo if you find that it's not at the store all the time.

Well, my dog doesn't stink per se, but we take her out so just to keep her clean, we bathe her at least twice a week. She's free to roam around anywhere in our home, that's why. Oatmeal shampoo does work but then I was just seeking an alternative. Strange that whenever the shampoo is available, the store only gets a few bottles of it at a time. The most was 3 and we usually buy up all the stocks they have. Then, they don't order frequently so it's a bit if a hassle to find the right one. Thanks for your comment.

I wonder if you could find it cheaper (and more readily available) online? Might be something to look into! What kind of dog do you have?

I'm from Hong Kong and so online shopping locally isn't that big. I do try to look sometimes and some shops do carry the product, if I'm lucky. Most of the time, I have to go to the shops myself and check because they don't have a website. The one that has skin issues is a Mongrel. A mix of a sheep dog and german shepherd.

I haven't had those issues, and I'm very sorry you are having them, but thank you for this piece of information. If Sherlock, or any dogs I might have in the future get sensitive skin, I'll know what shampoo to look for.

You're most welcome. I found that the Oatmeal Shampoo for cats also works for felines. Seems like oatmeal is a good overall solution for both cats and dogs. Happy mylotting.
