Hi mylotters, In India November 14 is observing as the day for children. Actually November 14 is the birthday of our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He loved children very much and that is the reason for celebrating his birthday as Children’s Day. In school teachers are performing for kids and giving sweets to them. In my son’s school kids can wear colourful dress on this day. What about your place, is there any day particularly for kids?

Hi Chaitra, This topic came to my mind all of a sudden, after talking to my son, who came from school and shared his happiness. He got sweets from teachers and there was performance by teachers etc. so he said the day was very good. I really think about the importance of the day and I asked the question myself, is any other country celebrating one day for kids like our country. So I started this topic dear, but so far I got replies from Indians only and I put the topic under the interest of ‘India’ I don’t know this may be one of the reasons. Let me wait. Today all mylotters are sleeping I think, I have received only few notifications. Happy children's day to you. I am happy to know that you memorized your school days by reading this discussion.

Since I am from India, it's November 14th for me too. But there's an International Children's Day too. I remember because we celebrated it at school last year (I used to work at an international school). Besides the school, I also organize children's programmes in the apartment complex where I live.

Hi SV, Happy New Year dear. Finally you got time to sign in here. Hope your kids are doing well. Yes you are right; the Universal Children's Day is celebrating on November 20. In India, we pre-pone the children’s day celebrations for giving tribute to our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. After getting responses from many countries, I realized that Universal children's day is not getting much attention and many are celebrating a day for children in different months. Thank you very much for the participation. Have a great time.

Since I too hail from your country there is not much to say about this. At the same time it will be discourtious to end a discussion with this. Anyway it's nice to devote a day for the children of our country and it is apt to select it as the birthday of a legendary prime minister who loved children a lot. I too used to enjoy this day when I was a school boy wearing white & white with a rose flower popping out of my pocket, waving to the onlookers while parading around the town with peers. Ingenious discussion. You have a special skill to find resources to start a thread even in the minutest things.Happy mylotting.

Hi Cosmo, First of all thank you very much for the appreciation; it is always niece to receive compliments from friends. I admit my fault in this discussion not providing enough space for Indians (I could have included one line for Indians) Actually the topic was not in mind and got the idea after talking to my son on phone who came back from school and narrated about his school day and celebrations so I think to start a topic. We don’t have any idea about other countries whether they are celebrating a day for kids and it is a good chance to let them know about our celebration too. So the discussion started in quickly and after posting the same I realized the fault. Thank you so much for sharing about your school days, I just imagined the situation, ha ha .. really nice.. Have a wonderful day.

Now celebrations are not meant for us. We can visit Kerala only when my son get a vacation, which falls in the middle of May upto the end of June. So this period will be our visiting time.

Hi Sree, it’s nice to learn that your country does celebrate children’s day to please the kids. After reading the info, I then know the reason why children’s day of your place is happened to be on the same day as the birthday of the first Prime Minister of India. all the children here love this special grand day very much. I think the main purpose to have this grand day is to remind parents as well as the society to take good care of children in both the body and mind, as children are the future masters of the nation. Besides Teachers’ and sports day, all the primary schools in our country do celebrate Children’s day as well. It falls on the 16th of October. It’s the happiest day of all the pupils here. Though it’s not a school holiday but there is no class totally, so they don’t have to bring school bags to school. Unlike your son they still have to put on their uniform. The school will hold a children’s day ceremony for that day. They sing the Children’s Day Song in the ceremony. Other than that there are still many interest programs and activities as well, like choir, dances, games, etc. Every kid will receive a special gift prepared by the Parent and Teacher Society. It’s a packet with lollipop, cake, and snacks that kids love. Pupils are allowed to bring their own food and drink to have their tea party in their respective classroom after the ceremony. They enjoy playing games in the class at the same time.I did prepare food for my son to bring to the party when he was in primary school. He always brought back his gift and shared the food together with us then Have a nice day and happy posting

Hi lkbooi, Thank you very much for your detailed reply. I too pleased with your reply about the way you people celebrating the children's day. Parents are also making special efforts by making special food for them. I think it a nice way because they can share the special food among friends and they must feel proud on their parents. In my opinion they should allow color dress/civil dress for them. In my son’s school, he got sweets from teachers and teachers perform for kids. There were no studies and they enjoy the whole day by playing. He brought sweets to home and shared with his younger brother. Take care dear. Have a great day.

Yeah, I got your point. The safety of children should be in top priority. My son's school recently they issued Identity-card for parents too, without which they won’t allow us to enter into the compound. The Id-card is containing photos of parents (both) and in case of a guardian is supposed to visit the school there should be one more id-card will issue in the name of guardian. So here I think they are taking precautions for the safety of children.

Hi Sree! Good Post! I think celebrating children day on 14th November is a unique idea. We also celebrate Teachers’ Day on 5th September in our country to honor to our teachers. Children are the backbone of society and they are the leaders are torch bearers of tomorrow. We must pay utmost attention towards children and on their education and growth so that our country could progress. I know various school in Delhi organize special programmes to celebrate this day.

Hi deepak, Yes we are celebrating Children's Day on November 14. The universal children's day is on November 20 and India is preponed the same for giving tribute to our great leader. Nobody responded me about the Universal Children’s day or celebrating (some mentioned about it but no celebration) which is very sad. What about your kids, how they celebrated it in school. Have nice day.

Hi, sreekala. We have the day for children in my country. It is June 1. That day is a special occasion for on that day, adults show their love to their children through various ways. They send their childrens presents, buy them new clothes, take them out to play or do whatever the children like. On that day, adults do not scold children for their making mistakes or do something wrong or foolish. Schools also celebrate the day for children. Special programs and performances are prepared to show people's love and care to children. That day is regarded as children's happiest day for they can do whatever they like without worrying about being beat or blame.

Hi Chexiaoyue, In China June 1 is celebrating as Children's Day, isn't it? Really great and thanks for sharing it. It means the kids are getting much attention on their special Day and all are taking care of them even without scolding. In India, we are paying tribute to our first Prime Minister by celebrating his birthday as Children's day. I would like to know if there is any speciality like this in your country on June 1. Have nice day to you.

Hi Sree! I don't think we have Children's day in the Philippines and I hope we have because that would be nice. Your Children's day sounds very entertaining for the kids and I hope the kids enjoy every moment of it. I'm also not sure if Egypt has Children's day, I never heard of it, but I'm going to ask my friend and maybe they have.

Hi Cjay, How are you dear? You are missing in between from mylot. Hope you are doing great. My son was very happy on the day and by understanding his happiness I thought to start a discussion on the same topic and all people in the world whether they are celebrating a day for kids. Here in India, it is related with a famous person and that may be one of the reason to get this much attraction on the DAY. Thank to our Former Prime Minister and his love towards children, because of him all are treating kids so nicely on this Day. Have a nice day.

No we don't have a day for children yet we do celebrate holiday's around our children. For instance, Easter is celebrate with the hiding of easter eggs, etc and the children will hunt for eggs that the easter bunny has hidden. Halloween they dress up as their favorite character and go door to door collecting candy. Well you get the idea. Yet, I like the idea of having a day for children better than celebrating false easter bunnies and Santa's. lol

Hi sherric, They need a day for their own; all other festivals are sharing with elder people (lol). May be you people (your country) think that all days are important for kids. It is also true but the Children's days is beneficial for school kids, one day they will get complete freedom from studies and can enjoy with teachers by watching their program. In higher standards they are conducting competitions for students. In primary class they can just playing and eating sweets etc. Thank you very much for the participation. Have a nice day.

May 1 is the day for children's day in China. I don't know much about the history of that day, I just follow the main stream to celebrate it as it is. We just award the children for their great performance at school, and probably have some sort of party for them at school I guess.

Amidst so many 'days', I love Children's day the most. i really feel proud to celebrate this day which I think is only celebrated in our country. A matter of great pride and a feeling of sweetness and innocence that engulfs me all day through. As a kid, we used to prepare for long hours before the d-day. In our school it was celebrated with great pomp just as the teacher's day. Our teachers took part actively and made it a special day for us. Gifts, choc'lates, cakes, coke, recitation, drama, fun , pomp... I have bought some gifts, choc'lates and cakes for the children in our hospital. I wish I could join them in playing as well!

Yes, in Turkey there's a special day for children. It's 23rd of April. It's anniversary of the birth of Republic Of Turkey in 1920, when officially remaining ashes of Ottoman Empire was thrown away. This day has been dedicated to children by our republic's founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk after 9 years (in 1929) His wish was to forward the new concept; that's to say protecting our government's benefits for every aspects to our children, to our future. Beginning from 1929, this special day is being celebrated as National Independence and Children Day. Yes it's a holiday for us if the day is between monday - friday.:) In that day, every year selected children takes the possession of any governemntal position and give orders :) That's the best part for me. A child directs the board of ministers for instance. And everyone holds the breathes to see what will be his/her order. Yeah, this is the fun part but we have opened this day to all nations and invite other governments to send their children groups to Turkey. Every year on 23rd of April, those visitors perform their traditional dances in a live tv show, broadcasted by national television of our government.
