what do you think would happen if extremists from those 3 rather similar religions got together and decided they actually has rather a lot in common? who would be their next victim?
incidently i know that number 3 has been, and still is, persecuted horrendously by the other two but there are now some extremists (not many) from this one persecuting too.
DISCLAIMER - THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK ON ANY OF THESE RELIGIONS - SIMPLY ON EXTREMISTS WHO I DO NOT THINK ARE REPRESENTATIVE. PLEASE PUT DOWN THOSE SHARPENED BOOKS AIMED AT MY HEAD.
acknowledgements - to the radio 4 sitcom old harry's game for giving me the idea. here is a short clip from it: http://www.emusic.com/audiobooks/book/Andy-Hamilton-2-Old-Harry-s-Game-Series-5-MP3-Download/10025644.html

To be honest, I thought you were talking about Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism. If you think putting Buddhism into a discussion on fundamentalism is strange, have a good look at Buddhist nationalism and political Buddhism in Sri Lanka especially, where Buddhist monks lead the war on the Tamils, and Burma.
But the fundamental (sic) differences between these three, and the three you are referring to, are so strong that such a scenario is a snowball in hell option.
Once you get away from religion itself, however, fundamentalists from all six religions in practice have ganged up on women, there being almost identical restrictions on female participation in all cases. The only thing that stops the Western three from having the same complete control over women that the other three have is Western humanism and feminism. The strength of this anti-female push is so frightening that the scenario you question could easily mean the end of civilisation as we know it: thank God (sic) that is is so unlikely.

No, I am confused, I've added an extra one in there. Unless you consider Catholicism and Protestantism as two separate religions, which I tend to, there are only five majors. Mea culpa.

hmmm, if the big three gang up on the little guy....what would happen?
The same things that happen now, I'd think. Seems like it already is.

You can't change human (or inhuman) nature.
I know, not a very appealing reply, was it?

what is this all about? why dont you come out and say what you want to say instead of being all coy about it?

No I got it, I just dont appreciate that you didn't come out and say it for some reason which makes me question your motives.
To answer the question, nothing. Extremists from each of those religions are diametrically opposed to each other. They could not and would not accomplish anything as a group.
BTW, there were many hindu extremists that fought with muslims in India as well.

it is not coyness - i wrote it like that because i thought most people would get it. but to lay it out for you (and anyone else who is unsure).
what would happen if extremists (and by this i mean aggressive fundamentalists, not the majority, fundamentalist or otherwise) from islam, christianity and judaism got together? i am particular referring to the first two but have included number three because they have a few extremists too now.
hope this is clear enough.

ok, i am going to assume that you didn't mean that comment to come across as it did. as you are new to this section i'm putting a link at the end to a discussion i started a while ago and btw yes i know about hindu muslim clashes. these three religions were selected in part because they share a common origin.

If ,and I do mean if, this should ever happen I think it would not last long enough to make any degree of difference. I think these three factions would end up fighting amongst themselves. They have been at odds too long and have too much too much pride and such to ever come together.

i have mentioned this several times...religion has always been misused for vested interests. this is probably because religion cannot be questioned..and those who dare to question and punished severely publicly to deter others. so you can practically do anything in the name of religion which would have been considered as horrendous crimes if committed under dictatorship or even democracy. it is simply because of the ignorance of people towards religion that encourages such acts. even in these modern days there has been not even a single income tax audit on religious organizations...why?? this precisely allows them to misuse their funds.
the irony is that being peaceful has now become a crime as the extremists will not let you live in peace.

peace is not in their interests - they will be more powerful if they can find a suitable focus for hatred, and stirring up trouble with the focus means that average followers who would otherwise probably be fairly peaceful become more motivated since there is a clear 'enemy' to attack. political as well as religious groups do this, and it can lead to extreme nastiness (see the holocaust for one of the most appalling examples of this).

Anything the human mind devises can become a 'religion'. Religion is merely a system of belief.
For instance....politics IS a religion for many. So is atheism or science. When you allow your beliefs about anything to become stagnant and quit questioning and begin accepting what others say without question....about ANYTHING...it has become a religion to you.

jb old blue bunny you, oh no if they all got together
they would not decide they had anything in common except
the urgent desire to kill for the sake of whichever God
they believe in, so would turn on each other and
create a lot of noise at least. So their next victim would
be one of the other two religions, sacrificing themselves
all for their particular religion. Since I am not gung ho
on any of these three, I will keep my books on the shelf
'where they belong. Even the odd Dean Koontz one which I
cannot stand, but was given to me from a friend. So I
am really very peaceable.

First of all, be easy, I won't trow books on you. One of the reasons is that I'm affraid you would not give them back ..
Now .. the 3 big brothers would make peace .. lol, (un)fortunately, this will never happen.
On the other hand, there are at least other 3 other religions - hindu, shinto, buddhism - so if the first three would make a corporation, odds are those other three will do same. So we will eventually end up with 2 big opposite blocks .. which will lead to a similar situatin with now, just at a larger scale ...
Well, I recommend to all to build up a global/worldwide Zen garden ..
