Where do you find inspiration and motivation to write?

I am sure many of you have had Writer's Block; but how have you gotten past that? Where did you find inspiration and motivation to write, and how did you "find" it?
What may possibly be some words or quotes or sentences that have inspired you to write?

Hi 1starrynite, I used to write all the time due to emotional stress. My emotional sagas would inspire long tales of woe or lyrical poetry of immense exaggerated circumstances. Now that I have reached a period of relative calmness I sometimes find it difficult to write. So, I, too look for inspiration of a different kind. I find that everyday life and its many moments of humor can break that "writer's block" for me. It's not as grandiose but its more honest and I feel better writing it. The best is that it makes me laugh. Things of beauty can strike a feeling and an urge to write. I like it best when I have a brand new blank book and a great pen, something about the blankness of the paper will beckon words from me as well. Welcome to myLot.

Thanks for sharing! I find inspiration sometimes when I am stressed as well, but now I'm not stressed I can't find anything to write about. That's a great way to look for inspiration of a different kind!

Hello Star and welcome to my lot. I find inspiration in a lot of things that happen daily in our lives. I write about things that concern me in this life. I like to get people to help me figure out things but in the end it is me that has to decide. I can see clouds in the sky and they will make me think of something that I really want to write about. I need a pencil and paper where ever I am to write down things I think of to write about....LOL. I get inspired by something our preacher teaches us and have to share it with everyone. Hope you have a great day!

here are some ideas that helped me when i had writer's block on my first novel:
1. i go outside for a walk to clear my head. and, that sometimes helps.
2. i go window shopping in the mall. as i people watch and check out stuff, i get some inspiration and ideas from here and there.
3. i bought this book at a used book sale called Wild Mind: Living the Writer's Life by Natalie Goldberg. it has writing exercises. i tried them for brainstorming ideas, and it helps bring out ideas and build upon what i already have.
4. i take a break from writing and just do something fun to relax. maybe go to the gym, sit in the jacuzzi, swim, draw, sleep, etc.

Sometimes sitting outside, by myself, and just thinking about nothing in particular will bring ideas to mind. There are also times when listening to music will inspire me, or a comment someone has made. When my mind is empty of ideas and I try to think of something, I usually remain blank. I'm more apt to get inspired when I'm not trying to.

Sometimes when I'm not trying, I just blankly think of nothing; like a computer shutting down because you leave it alone for too long. Music is always a choice, but after a while I just enjoy the music instead of thinking of anything else. Thanks for sharing!

i seldom suffer from Writer's Block. Since I started writing in Feb, I think there are just one or two days when I dont want to write, not that i dont have anything to write.
I dont know whether you write for Helium. If you do, you can rate the articles there. Sometimes one title is enough to inspire you to write. Sometimes, the badly written article makes you so bad that you know you can do better. usually in less than 10 rate, I find enough material or title or motivation to write five articles.

I do have a Helium account but I haven't been on it that much. Thanks for the suggestion!

I usually find my inspiration to write from my life experiences. I don't know why but I usually have time to write when I feel bad or if something wrong happens in my life. However, I am trying now to write even if everything is good in my life because a truly good writer can write in different time frames. When I had writer's block, I usually read a lot so I can find inspiration from other writers. I have heard somewhere that usually the best writers are bookworms as well so the best thing to do during writer's block is to read.

I agree, reading helps a lot, so that you can get ideas from what other people write. Great idea! Thanks for sharing =)

Normally, for me it is not a lack of inspiration, but just getting tired of writing. There is nothing like a deadline to make the need for inspiration go out the window and panic to set in. Suddenly, I have loads of inspiration. Yes, I guess I am the typical procrastinator.
When it comes to creative writing, it's more a matter of something that touches me or I get a lot of inspiration from art. Of course, there are lots of websites and books with writing prompts. Or one trick is to take a book, copy out the first line, and then write your own story based on where that leads you. Of course, you must eliminate the first line when you are done (copyright issues), but I assure you, you will end up in a totally different place than the author when you let your imagination run wild.
Good luck with your writing!

Haha, I am the typical procrastinator as well. =) I haven't seen a lot of things that have inspired me much, and that inspiration only lasts for a while. There are, although, a few sparks of inspiration that lead to a lifetime of motivation. Thanks for sharing!
