so today me and my friends were having a discussion on chalkboards and i just found out it's illegal to call them blackboards because it's considered as being racist and what i don't understand is it's ok to call a whiteboard a whiteboard but it's not ok to call a chalkboard a blackboard. shouldn't whiteboards be called penboards or something? what do you think? do you agree with me that it's wrong not to change the name of whiteboards too?

Whiteboard would also cause racial discrimination. Let it be called simply BOARD

When I was in school the blackboards were black and that was why they were called blackboards. When my kids were in school the blackboards were green and with the grandkids they were replaced with the white boards.
Being politically correct is getting way out of hand these days. No mater what some group is going to be offended by some words. I think when it starts getting stupid it is time to suck it up and get over it and get a life.

This is ridiculous. Why don't we just get rid of the colour black all together? While we're at it we may aswell get rid of the colour white, because that's racist too (??). Oh hey! Why don't we get rid of the colour red so as not to offend the Native Americans! Soon we'll have no colours left. It's ridiculous and political correctness has gone way too far.
What I consider to be racist is the fact that these numbskulls are going around picking out things and making an issue about it. THEY are the racist ones, everyone else is fine with using certain terms. Absolutely ridiculous and this makes me so angry. I am definitely not racist, I am a quarter 'black' and I am not going to stop saying the word 'black' when describing things. This has to stop before we're walking around with gaffer tape over our mouths.

I didn't realize that it was considered racist to call a blackboard what it is, a blackboard. Some are tinted a bit more green, but either way that is what they have been called for a long time! It's by color not of the board!

I dont understand why they say its racist! And if that is, why isn't "whiteboard". Besides, its talking about a board. If that is illegal, then why aren't all words that specify colors illegal.

hi iram786 this is so silly its beyond conception. What on earth have black boards to do with racism or whiteboards either? we have gone way too far now in trying not to be racist. Let the
names stay.we all know what they mean, why change them? They are not racist, they are just tools to be used to help our kids and for our business meetings. this is just going way too far.

ok to me things like this is really stupid for real. to me people look for excuses to yell racest for dumb things like this.
but to keep real, i think if a black person said its a whiteboard and a white person said its a chalk board because its racest the black person would make fun of them.
to me when you see stand up acts how its a double standard black people can make fun of white people. but if a white person make fun of a black person they are called racest..
the double standards have to go for real

There was nothing wrong in calling the boards in their color. It is their color, anyway. Racism is how you react to a person's origin whether they are from Manila or Visayas. Some Visayans felt that the Manilenos
belittle them. so, when I went to their place, they wanted me to learn their dialects. They were irked when I used my dialect in speaking. That is racism.

How can the name for boards now be a racist issue? What is so wrong in identifying something by its colour after all, if the board was blue it would be blueboard. Why do people bring up issues when there is none, there a lot more things we should be concerned about other than saying blackboard being racist.

Being Politically correct, is really getting ridiculous,
I have always heard them as being blackboards, and i dont see where that is racism. These days you do have to be afraid of what you say, cause someone might just get offended. People need to get over it.. and move on, and not be so sensitive and take everything so personal.
