Hey guys I was just wondering if anyone knew any companies that are trying to help out underprivileged people with computers? I have been homeless for several months and just found a job but now that I have the job I'm having to go back to school via online courses in order to keep the job. I need a laptop with an internet card. I've heard of alot of companies that do it for the disabled but why not for people who are barely making it?

Hmm... there are some organizations that does that.
Try looking for charity organizations that gives out refurbished PCs or laptops at very highly subsidized prices, or free if you meet their criteria.
My local charities are doing that from time to time. I am sure that there is one at your place that does the same. Cos with consumer technology getting so advance, the older generations of products are getting replaced pretty quick. You should be able to get yourself a pretty decent system for general use via the charities who collect them to give to the lesser well-off.
The other avenue you can look out for are those office clearance sale.
Some offices move locations and does not want to bring their current computer equipments with them due to new budget for new purchases. So they sell off their old computers at very low prices to get rid of them. If you can catch these sale, the prices are pretty low for decent systems.
Hope that helps.

I believe the program is called BlueHippo 1-800-747-4260 I think they require a checking account though.... The computers cost a little more though but it is a good way to get one when you have no other way.... The computers come with alot of software that you will need in school especially the Microsoft office software... Another way go down to your local FoodStamp or government like office and they do have programs (limited spots) where you do I believe it is a 8 hour class usually on a Saturday and for doing this class they give you a free reconditioned computer.... No strings just have to go to this class for one or two Saturdays (some programs are a little different but outcome the same) The classes are free....

i dont know any company that offers as such but you can pay in installment for a laptop. you can bargain for a used one and ask them if they have discounts or installment plan. if you still dont have one, you can go to the nearest library in your place and use the computer or internet for a while. its still for learning. its free too... :)

Check with your local library. Here, with your library card, you have access to their public computers. May not be as convenient as home, but it beats losing a job you want to keep!!! You might need to ask the person at the counter when is the best time to get there so a computer is available. Even our homeless go to the library to get online.

I know of one place in North Hollywood, CA, but I have to find the paperwork for it. I'll get back to you.
