My daughter is actually requesting for a dog... but she is just 3 years old and wouldn't be able to take care of it... so i would be the one to do everything... aside for that... we live in an apartment so there is no room for any kind of pet...

That is a lot of cats. It would depend on where we lived. When I was a kid we went to the carnival once every spring and threw nickels in cups to win ducklings. We brought the babies home and raised them until they were big ducks and then ate them and used the feathers to make pillows. But I "swam" with them in the creek and fed and played with them all summer so they were my friends and I did not want to eat them. I was so angry with my parents when I found out they killed my duck friends. I cried and made a fuss and refused to eat the duck when it was served at our table. That was the only time I was ever an out of control little kid--but when I saw my duck all golden brown on a platter I just went berserkers over it. Time heals all wounds, though, because now I love to eat duck.

I would suggest fishes or turtle as they are much more easier to maintain.

we have a cat and our 12 year old daughter has some fish and both our daughters would love to get a dog but we are way too spur of the moment to get a dog, plus, dogs cost a lot of money and we just dont have the room. so i tell them that when they move out and have their own house, they can get a dog.

OMG that is alot of pets. I would get a puppy that won't grow to big unless I had a big backyard for the dog to run around in. The only thing is it usually becomes the parents who take care of the pet. In the beginning its all new and exciting but then the reality steps in and it becomes the parents who take care of the pets in most cases.

When my older son was 15 years old, he wanted a pet dog. I was so very hesitant. I could still remember the pain of loosing all our pets years ago. Then suddenly I decided that having a pet would teach both my sons to love and care. And bingo, we got our first pet Trixy. And oh yes, my sons did learn a lot of responsibility. Now we have five dogs, Trixy and her son Teddy (German Shepherds), Gypsy, Teetoo and Maggie, all Mongrels from the street. Along with them, we have 8 cats. Princess, the grand lady, her two children Pepsi and Cola, and their children, Tiger, Rabbi, Coco, Angel and Kimba. I really don't know how many more I might have.

i would love to have them a cat and dogs as a pet. They are domestic animals and they are friendly as long as they are not hurt by their owner. The perfect pet is dog as long as you vaccine it with anti-rabies. Dogs are playful for sure your kids will really enjoy the time they will spend on them.

My daughter had rats. They got chummy and made more rats and my daughter started selling the babies to the local pet shop we liked to use. She had about fifteen cats but we got rid of twelve either by giving them away or taking them to the humane shelter when we couldn't give them away and were getting in trouble for having too many in our apartment. We had some guinea pigs for awhile too.

We have a lot of animals. 7 mini Dachshunds,2 guinea pigs and several fish. We love lots of animals around my house. We had 3 cats but we gave them away to good homes. Don't get me wrong we love cats to. I use to help run a farm with lots of animals on it.

I would give my child a starter pet.I will give him/her a hamster,guinea pig,or a fish.from there,I could see how s/he takes care of her/his pet.is s/he feeding the pet well?is s/he cleaning the cage/fish bowl?if I see that my child is doing well taking care of his/her pet then I will give him/her a dog or a cat.

i would suggest to have a least responsible pet to take care with. you may start with a goldfish, turtle, or hamster that would be best for starters

I think it all depends on how old the child is and how responsible they are with pets. We have always owned, dogs, fish and hamsters. Those are very good pets for all ages of children.

My grand daughter has a cat. We have 3 cats and my grand daughter's cat makes 4. Now she wants a dog. I tried to explain that we really have to choose one because dogs and cats usually don't get along. She doesn't understand. Happy Mylotting

My kids loved puppies and kittens, so we always had a dog and three outdoor kitties, one for each daughter.
We used to "adopt" stray pets, too, and find them homes, or if an animal from the woods was hurt, we'd nurse it until it was better and then set it back in the woods...baby squirrels, once, and two baby racoons another time.
They also had a fish aquarium.
