Is it true the world is going to end in 2012?

Have you watched the movie 2012 yet? I haven't but tonight I am going to the cinema to watch it. Most probably we will be watching the midnight movies since this is the only time when I can spend time with my husband. He's been busy working from Monday to Saturday and I am quite sad because I am lonely and only have him on Saturday evening and Sunday, that's all.
One of my husband's friends at work told him he read somewhere in the newspaper that the world is really going to an end by 2012. It is terrifying indeed. With all the natural disaster happening around the world, e.g. hurricane, tsunami and earthquake, I think it is not impossible. But I really hope it is not going to happen while I am still alive because I am very scared to face with the doomsday.
What do you think?

No one knows when the world is going to end. Only God knows and I doubt that HE will decide to end it in 2012 because of some Mayan or Nostrodomus prediction. In fact I am sure that HE will make doubly sure that the world does not end in 2012 to prove HIS POWER. First the gospel has to be preached to the ends of the Earth, and then all his elect has to be gathered from the four corners of the earth and that has not happened yet. As for the natural disasters, it says there will be wars and rumors of wars and natural disasters in diverse places, so that proves that all is in God's Hands and it is not the natural disasters that will determine it, but the conversion of those whom God chose for HIS elect.

[b]"God will laugh them to scorn!" ~~from some bible book--can't recall which....
Absolutely! It would be just like Him to underline His point in that way! That's utterly brilliant of you, Suspense! (So why didn't I think of that? )
Besides which, you're right, according to the prophecies, there are things which have to occur before He stops the world, which haven't happened yet, such as the--what was it? a 2 & a half year reign by the Anti-Christ? Whatever.
But things are coming to a head, so it won't be long, now! Heads up! rejoice! The end is near, & then there's be no more evil!
And if that thought doesn't make a person joyful to he marrow, they're probably an Atheist, or just ignorant of God in general. And isn't that terribly sad?
I'm just sayin'....

According to Islam, there are certain warnings or hints that shows the earth is heading towards doom. Many of the small signs have already happened, and we are only waiting for the big signs to happen, such as the emergence of the one eyed "Dajjal", the sunrise that begins from the west, and the "Yakjuj and Makjuj" appearance on earth.

..Hi ladysurvivor, I seriously have no idea if the world is going to end in 2012, and I think that only God knows. I do know this much, we are living in the last days, as you mentioned, all the things that are going on, in the bible it speaks of wars and rumors of wars as a sign of the end coming, but it also says I think, that no man knows when that day will come. So I don't worry myself about the day or year the world will end, I have not seen the movie, maybe I'll watch it maybe I won't. But overall, this conversation about 2012 that everyone is talking about reminds me of the 2000 fears of everything being out of synch and people stocking up on food and water and nothing but nothing happened. So it may be the same in 2012, we just
have to wait and see. I am trying, like your name says to survive day to day. Take it easy.

Yeah, maybe I'll just have to do that, relax... but 2000 is nothing compared to this issue, it's about the end of life eternally... but well, it is better not to worry, when it comes it will come. But yeah, you're true. I don't want to worry too much now. But I do admit in the year 2012 I will be nervous not because I believe the prediction on nobody but this is based on scientific proof.

....Hi again ladysurvivor, best advice would be for everyone to live today as if was the last day of your life. That way whatever it is that you want to do, you will do it and not care that it is going to end that day. Be happy. Suppose you have a heart attack before 2012 gets here. So why worry about something that man says is going to take place. Do it today!

Predicting things isn't a good idea. God knows what is going to happen after few seconds. If there were people who were so good into predicting and telling what is going to happen in future, they would have stopped so many big incidents from happening. They could have predicted the killing of great world leaders and we could have saved them. It's nothing but to seek people's attention. There are things people will never have control on and predicting the future is one of them.

[b]Well, while rare, there are prophets; their proclamations have been verified by coming true.
None of them were in Hollywood, though...

well it has been solved.the world will not end on dec 12 2012....Ann martin docotoral candidate in cornel university astronomy department point out that the Mayan calendar was supposed to be cyclical so the fact the long count comes to an end in dec 12 2012 is really of no consequence

IF the prediction is based solely on the Mayan calendar, then it's a huge relief. But what about the scientific signs such as all the natural disasters?

I don't belive the world is going to end. Even the Mayans have confirmed that. I truly believe that 2012 is more or else a new begining...its a time for change. I also believe that the media will hype it up just like they did with the y2k to increase market sales.

[b]Smart person!
Yes, I remember the Y2k flap all too well, & how many people were literally frightened out of their wits--among them friends, co-workers & family! I mostly ignored it, but decided if the doomsayers were right, I couldn't do anything abouot it anyway. I'm too poor! So, as always, I just trusted in God. Guess how that turned out?
You know, I've noticed, there are many more smart people here on MyBot than on the average opinion forum. I wonder why it attracts so many? No need to try to answer; I'm just being idly curious....

I think the movie is scary enough. I wonder how it would be like if the real doomsday happened yeah. Let's pray hard so that the end of the world does not happen in the near future.

Noone knows when the world is going to end. I am a Christian and I believe the bible is God's word. There is a verse in there that says noone but the Father (God) knows the time, not even the angels or the Son (Jesus Christ).
I think the movie is about as true as War of the Worlds was and has only succeeded in allowing the crazy people who believe they can predict the future to scare the daylights out of people.

[b]Amen to that! Um...no pun intended.
Plus, don't forget, there is a thriving industry which has as its sole goal scaring the poojies out of people to get money/power. Think of AlGore, if you don't agree. Or just think of your average Hollywood disaster film--can you say "lucrative?"
I knew you could!

The movie maker is just trying for commercial success! no one is intelligent enough to predict the end of world. its just a hyip and and the producer of this movie is trying to capitalize on it. If the world has to end it can end today or tomorrow or may be some day beyond 2012... no one really knows!

Hello dear.
I was thinking, you started this topic in 2009, i answer now in 2010, you will comment in 2011 and i will comment back in 2012 :)
Anyway a friend of mine was just telling me a while back that in 2013, the 2012 movie will be the best parody ever.
I don't believe all this nonsense about the world ending - people have been predicting our imminent doom for ages - (2000; 2001; 2004 etc etc). I even heard a new variant for 2015 if i recall. and they will keep trying to predict the endless doom for ages to come until one will eventually get it right :)

Hello dear friend,
Ha ha you know what now is the year 2013 and the end of the world didn't happen!
I am pretty much relieved now and I think it's not worth it to depend on people's prediction even though it comes from the mouth of a scientist. This is because only God knows when the end of the world will take place, we as His servants need to pray for the best and that's all there is to do.
I hope you are going to comment here, I feel happy now and no worries anymore. But I admit that on 21st December I didn't sleep. It was 2.00 a.m. and I was still staring at the sky full of stars, being nervous and all. But the next day I am fully convinced that it's best to leave things to God because no matter how many proofs we all have God is the final verdict provider and we don't have any power to stop that.
Come and give your comment. I wonder if you will comment in 2013 or 2015?
Have a nice day!

I don't want to believe it too, but deep in my heart something is whispering 'maybe' it will happen based on scientific evidence... but still I am hoping it would not happen in the near future.

no yar i too not yet watched the movie, but from my friends i heared the story of that movie its just as it happened real.including more graphics and horror.but i doesn't believe that the world is going to end,all those are rumours.like this happened many many times.my mother said me that during their childhood also once a news came upon like this that the world is going to end,and all the people spent over their money and enjoyed all luxeries thinking that however they are going to die they met all all their friends, relatives and enjoyed, but it doesn;t happen and they all are still alive now.how crazy the things happen.may be this also just similar to that situation.however don't worry whatever happens to be happened thats it.

For me, we dont know when is the end of the world
or when is the judgment day... Coming of Jesus Christ
is like a surprise.. All we have to do is to prepare
everyday, prepare ourselves to whatever happens coz we really
dont know..Pray to God always and ask forgiveness to our sins..

After watching the 2012 movie I become more aware of what will happen if we don't take a global action in preventing the earth from being destroyed. It is true that the earth has a deadline. Only the lucky people will survive, and even that there is no guarantee anyone would survive if the world is really to end.
I still hope it would not happen in the near future. I am too scared to face it.

Yeah, I hope so. In Islam we have to wait until all the big signs happen and now only the small signs had happened. But it is terrifying because I think all the small signs had already happened and we are just waiting for the big ones. Imagine that.
I don't exactly believe it would be the exact date but the anticipation of not knowing the truth is making me nervous...
Hope that no big signs will happen in my lifetime.

A) the world ending on 2012 is based on a misinterpretation of the Mayan calendar. If we are to even believe such things, it should be mentioned that the Mayan calender called for a great change and a re-birth, not the end of time, and B)It is likely that if something bad is going to happen that year, particularly on that December something or other, 2012 date, it is most likely because someone in power or enough of the common folk got paranoid and through self-fulfilling prophecy make the bad stuff happen.

We will have to wait and see. I personally don't think the world will end, but it might change somehow. Maybe the world will change on it axis or start spinning in the opposite direction. That alone would create many changes for the world to deal with. When something ends, something else begins.

I have not seen the movie yet. Though I have heard that the Mayan calendar has predicted that such year would be the end of the world. However, I really do not believe on such. Perhaps something big will happen in that year, but not the end. Many things are happening now as you can see a lot of calamities are affecting the world and this are all part of change. The world will continue and of course will continue to change.

Thanks, since it is so comforting. Even though there is a huge alarm around the world, like the hurricanes, tsunamis and earthquakes, landslides everywhere, I just hope the earth is able to repair itself and not collapse in the near future. At least not when I am still alive.
I don't want to live when the doom is happening, particularly because in Islam there are no true Muslim believers left when it happens. Only the non-believer and the munafiquns are left to experience this.
