My beautiful cat of 12 years was put to sleep yesterday. I am so upset. She had a growth on her front leg that was spreading rapidly. My husband took her to the Vet's yesterday, and was told that she had bone cancer.
The last few days, she was doing a lot of crying and would only drink water, when she refused her favorite food, chicken, I knew that she was really sick.
Thursday night, when we returned home from choir rehearsal, she was crying very loudly. My husband put her on his lap and began petting her, she soon quieted down and began to purr. She had begun going in my husband's closet, and yesterday morning I found her behind the couch. My husband took her to the Vet's and she did not come back home with him, actually she did, but only to be buried. We will bury her in our back yard.
My other cat Jake has been very quiet and not active like normal, I know he senses something is wrong.
We will miss you Scoots.
How have you dealt with the death of a beloved pet?

Rest in Peace Scoots xoxo.
Twelve years is a long time and pets become one of the family. I am sure Scoots had a lovely home and life with you, you sound like a very caring owner.
It sounds like she didn't suffer for too long, which is good. It is hard to make the decision to end a pet's suffering but it is much kinder than letting it continue. I am a nurse and used to work at an Emergency centre and I saw people and their families having to make that decision every day.
I have had quite a few beloved pets pass away and it is hard. It helps me just to think that while they were here they lived a life safe from harm and fear and one that was full of love.
Find confort in knowing that your baby is out of pain and has crossed the rainbow bridge to be with her other four legged friends.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Scoots was so funny, on Sunday afternoon after church, I would sometimes curl up on the couch with my blue blanket. As soon as Scoots saw that she would come and curl up with me. Then I became a prisoner, because I did not want to get up and disturb her

Sorry to hear of your loss. Jake will miss Scoots and go through a grieving process too. My cat did the same. It is very sad. Big huggers to you.

Our pets are like family to us. When we lose one, the pain is deep. Let the tears flow, don't hold them in.
