what is with people breaking mylot rules?

I cannot help but wondeer how someone can get to 500 or 1000
points then make a discussion that will probably be deleted
because simply, they did not bother to read the rules.
My question now is are the rules of mylot that difficult to
read, are they indeed worded too complicated to understand?
Why do people that have been here long enough to make a goodly
amount of points still break the rules all the time?
Interested minds want to know. your input please.

Well, many of the rule breakers don't speak the language well and find the rules overwhelming. But there are plenty of people who can read English well that assume that if they generally mind their manners they will be okay. That just isn't true.
I re-read the "don't" section today in order to reply to a friend's question and saw a lot of things that I'd forgotten or skimmed over. So I could conceivably break the rules without even knowing it!

hi dragon54u yes I know there are a lot who are having to learn English but yet they must have friends who could help them]
translate things but some just dont think the rules mean
anything until something of theirs is deleted. then they
cry about it. I try to go back and reread as they do make changes.

hi dragon54u I had to reread them myself as they had added
some new ones while I was away. so it pays to go back
occasionally and read them in case a few new ones were
added. i have reread often too as it would be easy to
miss something otherwise.

Hi dragon54u, and Hatley, thanks. Even I've forgotten quite a few of the rules. :( Yeah I think to refresh them periodically. And Hatley, thanks for letting me know that there are new rules periodically. I never thought of that!

tell me about it, worst is seeing members posting url and affiliate links wtf is that all about lol,
I think when people sign upto sites they dont bother to read the rules and then the result is people start to complain and whinge when discussions are deleted and their earnings drop.
Or maybe they are more focused on earning and just start discussions for the sake of it in the hope they will somehow bypass the rules.
Who knows but yeah bugs the life out of me but hey thats what makes life interesting lol,

hi ajiothjlal I think so many think they can come on mylot and sell stuff and promote online business so they do not bother to read the guidelines or
the FAQs at all.So thy get their discussions with the illegal links deleted and whine about it and get that discussion deleted for whining at the admins. As far as
I know links to sources for discussions are allowed.

Uhm I had one of mine deleted last month. I guess someone thought it was too similar to the one I had posted the week before. I was going on about my pet peeve and I guess it wasn't different enough
I find it sad that so many do not read them. In society there are rules so that things run smoother for the community as a whole so it is obvious that there will be some here too.
When I see users with high numbers doing certain things and then moaning later when they lose their post, it is their own fault. It was my fault with mine and I am sorry for those who responded. I don't think many think about that aspect when they start a discussion. They expect responses regardless

I am with you, if any of mine have been deleted, I am sure they have deserved it, but the others who followed along in the discussion did not necessarily deserve to be deleted. I just do not recall if any of my discussions have been deleted. I know I have had responses get caught up in the deletion spiral.

hi diana and gardengerty I too have had a number of responses
deleted the last two days and that prompted this discussion
as I do try not to respond to a discussion that looks like
it will break mylots rules. I think Diana is so right, a lot
of people here do not think of that aspect. they just go on
and make a discussion willy nilly.

Hi Hatley, I think there are a few who dont read thru rules, then there are a few who forget them (like me), and then there are some new rules that may have come just a day or two after a person has refreshed his or her memory. The fourth category are people who know they are breaking the law, but continue to do so, because there are no strict punishments! And this is what makes others like me get confused. We wonder if our interpretations of rules were wrong.

hi vandana7 I do realize that those who have English as a second
language have a harder time interpreting the rules by mylot admins
itself says get someone to help you interpret who does know the English language. the rules are for everbody to obey.

The main thing is mylot is so cool in look, work and interaction that some people think you can do anything here like in Forums without moderator. Here Moderator works silent unlike forums.
My lot is definitely a great site for light entertainment, time pass with a twist - you get paid here, may be small but who gives you that much just for being here!

I think it's because of the inconsistency. Some people seem to have posts deleted all the time...they don't care, they break the rules simply to get attention and to play the victim. Others do it to call attention to some perceived fault with the site. The thing is, some posts which go against the correct way of doing things are NOT deleted.
During the most recent "glitch" (I think the star colours were tampered with deliberately) I responded fairly quickly with a questioning post. Many posts followed mine. Some, including mine, were deleted, others were not.
Sometimes people post with an axe to grind and include a warning that it's likely the post will be deleted...they know they are breaking the rules and yet, the post stays.
Some folk post about milestones, birthdays, anniversaries... & nothing happens, while others who do the same have their post deleted

mstickle you have hit the nail right on top, i have also
noticed some get deleted who broke the rule and others who
also broke the same rule do not. that will send a message
to users that you can probably get bye if you break a rule.
unfortunately we will never know who will get deleted
and who will not. so read the rules and obey them, and
the life you save may be your discussion.

I've heard that rules are meant to be broken and once broken one has to pay heavy price for their 'sins'. It is not that we don't read the rules, we do but just blame it on human errors. I am one of those 'old horses' who has been galloping here for years but still being whipped for unintentional mistakes. I don't think all my discussions that were deleted have gone against the rules but I admit they were a little controversial which might not go down well with the admin. Some readers might not feel comfortable reading or have been indirectly hit or hurt when they read them so have valid reasons to condemn the posts and reported them to the admin to get them removed. . This lot is full of mysteries which up to now I am still mystified. We are wrong to think that we can post anything under the sun but always remember we are still being governed by mylot iron fist rules. To play safe here it is better to post something that is in the common interest which can be boring and repetitive.

hi zandi458 yes I guess thats true but to me the rules seem
'rather simple and too you can always find someone who knows
English well to help translate the rules into something
understandable. The only time I ever report anything is
if someone comments with an insult to me. other than that
I do not file complaints. its up to mylot to do their
own work.

Well, Hatley, to be honest although I have read them a few times I do forget. I do not think that I have broken any rules though. I am just a quiet, shy, introverted lady, whose posts are really quite innocuous and sometimes boring. I am getting worried as I am forgetting quit a lot these days. Have lots of lists. If I do not write it down then I am wiped out.

Rules are made to be broken so they say. Some people are known to follow rules while others like to break them. We cannot change these people and should not try. I will discuss this issue with many rule breakers and ask them why they have problems following the rules. We must better understand the rule breaker before berating them with snotty remarks. I will come back tomorrow to show you my results.

bluegoblin my remarks are not snotty, but just factual. we are all supposed to read the rules, mylot itself says to get help
if you are not an English speaker to translate them so you
understand them. why break rules then whine you do not make any
money and why did mylot admins delete my whatever. Why do you
not think the rules are there for a purpose?

Hello Hatley,
We need to accept that most users when registering to one websites did not aware of the ToS or the guidelines. But even do they read the guidelines it is not perfectly followed by them due to some mistake...
Even me I miss out the guidelines sometimes. Even do I read it twice in month. But the most effective for it follow is the regular reminders of all members here that really mastered the guidelines...

aerous it always a mazes me that people who will use recipes to make food, or instructions to put something together will not find the d amned rules and read them. this doesn't make much

'never had any of my postings deleted yet.

18 Nov 09
hi jugsjugs mostly that is true because the discussions that really broke the rules were already deleted. as an older user
I try to tell the newbies what specific rules that they break'will cause mylot admins to delete at once. so as to speak to warn them so they will not lose points and money. like the one the other night where the poster was trying to sell his tuna fish in a discussion. this was an obvious breaking of the rules. do not sell anything in your discussions, now that is surely clear enough for anyone.

Hello Hatley. I think the rules are perfectly clear and easy to understand, even for a newcomer from the Planet Zog for whom English is a 24th language. However, some people just don't give a flying fortress about rules or anything else, because they think they can do what they want, and nothing else matters except that they post their guideline-breaking discussions.
And that, Your Honour, is the case for the prosecution. I feel so much better now I've got that off my chest. Thanks for giving me the opportunity.

hi sandra thanks for backing up my own thoughts. I see nothing
really hard to understand in the rules. I agree some do not
care one whit if they break the rules or not, but still they
will whine and moan they are not making any money or they have
had a discussion deleted and why? read the rules mylotters so
we can all keep our points going.

People are always reluctant to read the rules before committing themselves.Have you ever come across a person who reads the rules in small letters completely before accepting it while installing a software? And generally people do not read thoroughly the printed rules of a bank or financial organisation before signing to get a loan.People do not change till there is a fear of punishment is instilled in them for breaking the rules.

balasri yes but in the instances of banks and financial
organizations they put the damned rules in fine print.
mylot rules are in big enough print anyone can read
them. maybe if mylot instilled a few real punishments
for breaking the rules people might just pay some attention.

I also get my discussions deleted sometimes. One of the thing is that I post responses to discussions that are like pool type questions or discussion that does not comply with the rule. I think it is good to go through the rules and to post wisely so that one does not get their discussion deleted.

Hi, Hatley!
It's clear enough, they did not bother to read the rules. Some newbie just don't like reading especially when they see the fonts are too small or the words are too long, so, they will just skip that part. Most probably they are thinking of making fast money.
So, whenever, there is something wrong with their earnings or discussions being deleted, and then only they will start to complain and later find out that the rules do exist. It's just like a little kid who keeps jumping on the sofa and doesn't listen to his mother and the moment he falls down, he would learn something, but doesn't mean he would stop doing.
That means even those who have been here longer enough who know what is wrong, but they still doing it. Some do it on purpose, just like the kid to have fun and when they fall, they have already expected it, but others just take their chances.
