Do you use warm salty water in your mouth when you get a tooth that comes out?

This is a technique that was handed to me down the years as I was a child. Now, with my kids I do the same thing. When my son tooth comes out, I will get a cup and fill it with warm, lightly salted water. I will then let him gargle his mouth out for at least five minutes. I make sure that he does not swallow the water. Doing this disinfects his gum and it heals his gum as well. It also helps with the soreness that comes after having his tooth extracted too. Have you tried this technique on yourself or your own kids?

I always use warm salty water in my mouth if i have a tooth ache as well as a tooth that has been taken out.I find that this stops any infection from starting and i would say i have always used the warm salty water for cuts on the children as well.

hi cream97 I had a wisdom tooth extracted when I was in my thirties and I did like you do, I just rinsed out the blood with salt water, and I should not have done so. I have never since then felt such pain, it was like a knife had been stuck into the gum where the bare socket was. My husband called the dentist. he said you have a dry socket, and the pain is from an exposed nerve. so come on in and I will pack it with an antispecti and antipain onitment. do not spit this out.leave it alone for four days.the salve stopped the pain and once and the antibiotic and antiseptic kept if from getting infected too. He told us the next time you have an adult tooth pulled leave the blood clot there as it protects the nerves and let the socket heal naturally .I had not known that.
