Inappropriate tags on discussions

I don't understand why people insist on adding tags that have no relevance to the discussion posted. I've seen this done a few times and just shook my head. I haven't seen it on any of my discussions yet, but then again, I haven't posted many discussions yet. I just don't understand why people do this. Is it to bring down the rating of the post ? Or just to be a pain in the butt ?
Have YOU ever done this ? Have you ever had it done to one of your discussions ?

Yeh, this used to happen wuite a bit in the politics section in particular. but i have seen it in the past in other sections too. It's a cowards way of harrasment because it is anonomous. I presonaly don't do it, I rarely if ever even use or add tags, unless a discussion is of a particular interest. the trick is to add as many tags to a discussion when starting it, this makes it difficult for newer, abusive tags to be visible in the listings.
What tags were you refering to by the way? Could you point me to a few?

I can't think of any offhand right now, but I've noticed some while poking around the site.

Inappropriate tags can be reported and will be dealt with.
Remember the Alert about them a few months ago?

that's not so bad. But there are some tags that have really nothing to do with the post.

Sometimes I add tags to discussions, but I have noticed that people do add odd tags. Tags are a useful way to drive interest in a discussion, but I think the tags ought to be relevant.

I've seen that a few times too. I never understood why they did it either. I always thought that it was the "trolls" that did it just to be a bug. You know, the people who go around down-rating people's discussions just to be mean, even when its a really good topic/discussion.
Personally, I've never done it before. Most times I won't even put tags on a discussion, unless its a new discussion by someone who (like you) doesn't have many postings next to their name, and haven't posted tags to their discussions, because i've found that sometimes having tags helps more people find your post, so there's more chance of getting responses.
