Athiest believe that nothign exists unless it can be proven without a doubt. GThat being said, they do not believe in God, at least not in a christian sense of the word. My question is, does it count when an athiest is sworn in during a court hearing?

In Canada I believe you are given the option to either affirm you will tell the truth or to place your hand on the Bible or other religious text, if that is your preference. Lying in court is against the law regardless of whether you've taken an oath or not. I think the courts just go through the symbolic process to strongly remind witnesses that they are expected to tell the truth.

I've often wondered about that. I myself am an Atheist, I think that the swearing in needs to change because there are so many different religions in this country now that saying "so help me god" doesn't apply to everyone.
