I am with you both, because I hAd hepatitis many years back they still will not let me donate blood, and I would love to do it
if they would allow it.of course if my blood made someone ill
that would be horrible. anyway you both have company.

I think giving blood is a wonderful thing to do and more people should do it. I wanted to donate for years when I was younger but was not allowed because I didn’t weigh enough. When I grew a little older and my weight increased I was all ready to do it then but I was turned down again because I happened to live in the U.K. in 1988-89 and my blood cannot be accepted due to the mad cow virus. Do you believe it? After all those years?

we were on the same during the younger years...underweight. the main cause why i cannot donate bloood.
but for the later years, it is already by far too different. i just didn't feel like trying it anymore. i had always been underweight until i reached 40 something.
now that my weight has increased, it is still an impossible thing to accomplish, i have onsets of high blood pressure already.

I guess some of us are just not meant to give blood; we will just have to find other ways to help out...

Sadly, I do not give blood. It's a hopeless excuse, I know, but I'm petrified of needles - they really freak me out!
I would like to be able to give blood, but another issue is that the system (at least, in the UK) is so screwed up. They don't make it easy to participate - and then they wonder why there's a shortage.

I used to be a regular blood donor, but since an operation to remove a tumor a year or so ago, they have decided to take me off the donor register. I supect that the reason is that I recieved blood or plasma myself during the operation and they are so careful about possible contamination these days that they take no chances and refuse anyone who has even had a tattoo never mind an operation.

i have never tried giving blood at all.
while i was still in college, i tried to. well, i was turned down because i was underweight and i had such a low blood pressure.
from that time on, i have never tried offering any blood donation anymore. so, until this time, i don't have any idea as to how it feels to go through that process.

I used to give blood all the time. About every 3 months or so. But for the last year, I've been on some medication for my back pain that won't allow me to donate. i hate it because I know that blood donors help save lives. I have type O which is what they always love to have because it's the type they can give to anyone. In case you didn't know, People like me are known as Universal Donors.

No, I don't donate blood. Haven't been able to for about thirty years now. My veins are too small and they have too much trouble with it. Even telling them they need to use a butterflie needle doesn't help. With all the problems with AIDS and such I am not sure I would want to be a donar. Sort of a scarey thing now days.

Before I had my children, I gave blood regularly because it made me feel good to know that I was helping other people. However, after I had my second child, I became anemic, so I quit donating blood at that time. I honestly really miss donating blood, but since I can't do that anymore, I try to think of other things that I can do to help other people.

It's indeed a noble thing to do... a healthy human being can donate blood every after four months... and it gets filled up in the body again... i have donated blood about 9/10 times now... whenever i come to know someone needs blood of my gp, i don't hesitate to donate...

I would love to, but unfortunately I was told I have extremely deep and hard to find veins, after I had my tonsils out when I was 15. They have to put iv's in my hand, and sometimes they have to go to my feet.

I don't give blood because I am afraid of seeing blood and the injection, but if I am needed for my blood, there will be no problem for me to give certain amount of blood. Take care, jj.

I give blood every 6-8 weeks, when they'll take it. I have a number of health problems, so sometimes when they run the tests they tell me I can't do it this time. I can't afford to donate all the money I wish I could, but blood is never missed. I'm proud to say that the kids at my school gave the most blood ever when my oncologists said I'd need a transfusion after the next chemotherapy treatment. As it turned out, I didn't have to have a transfusion, after all, but those kids were just amazing! Since I only teach seniors, many of those who donated didn't even know me!

I'm definitely going to give blood, if there is a need of blood. I would be delighted if I can help. but I'd be disappointed not give blood because my blood pressure was not normal. I am very disappointed at that time, because there was a friend who really need it.

My first time i gave blood was for my son, he needed blood for his dengue, i felt so nice when a lot of my friends donated blood for my son, so i promised my self that i will so it to donate blood regularly, but there is rule that you can not donate twice in 1 year and not more than 3 times in a lifetime, so i always tell the nurses it is always my first time to donate everytime they interview me.
