Ok, I am trying to toilet train my 2.5 year old daughter & a couple of hours ago, I caught her starting to do a poo in her daiper so I suggested that she go to the toilet - she's never wanted to do a poo in the potty or toilet but today she agreed, probably because I got her a kiddie seat for the toilet so she doesn't have to hold on for grim death to not fall in. Anyway, I left her on the toilet & asked her to let me know when she was finished so I could help clean her up...when I went in there to check on her, she was trying to wipe herself but had gone through 1/2 a roll of toilet paper & there was poo in her hands, legs & toilet seats!! Has anyone else had this happen while trying to toilet train their toddler?

Hi Moonchild, When you do the toilet training with your child be there with here from start to finish... explain to her why she needs to be trained and that she must be used to it. If you leave your child that's what can happen to her... she will play with it and even enjoy it. it will really be a mess. This happened to me too and i learned my lesson not to leave my kids alone to do their thing. We really have to bear with it mommy dear!

I will keep that in mind...she is fine when I leave her alone when she does a wee but now I know to stay with her when she does a poo...lol

Yep! I have had to deal with that before myself. She was just trying to be a big girl and independant. My son is potty training and he actually freezes up when other people are watching him try and poo. The thing that is working best for me is letting him be on the potty (on the little seat) by himself, but I wait right outside the door. I pop my head in and ask every couple of minutes, but he still has his privacy. Another thing is that I have told my son that the Kandoos (potty training wipes) are his special toilet paper. He has to call for me when he is done, so I can get his special "toilet paper" down. I even made a tiny scene for him one day and scolded his dad for trying to use my son's special toilet paper. He really wasn't but it was fun for my son to see his dad have to sit in time out for not asking my son to use it! Little things like that tickle them silly!

Hey that would've been good to see - dad getting into trouble lol...my daughter will go wees quite easily in the toilet but still prefers to fill her pants with poo so this was the first time she had done a poo in the toilet...the door was closed for her privacy but I kept yelling out to her to see if she had finished but before I left her to do her business, I told her to let me know when she was finished so I could help her clean herself...so she tried cleaning herself before I could lol

Yeah, I have sat her on the toilet since but only when she asks which is for wees & not poos (she still prefers to fill her pants)...I went grocery shopping yesterday & she asked to go to the toilet so she's getting there :)

Yeah, she just wanted to be a big girl I'm sure. I know one time, my son decided he wanted to get all the poo out of his pants before I knew he had gone. Only problem was, that he was trying to pull it out of the back of his diaper and rubbing it on the wall next to him! It was so disgusting. After alot of lysol and a couple baths, he was all clean again. It is amazing the things they think of. Thankfully he has never done it again! LOL I'm pretty sure, at her age, she was just trying to make you proud by doing it herself. Have you tried putting her back on the potty since?

I don't have kids, but i have heard of this happening. The best thing to do when trying to actually train the child, is to stay with them while they are doing it, so that they won't make that kind of a mess. As they get better at it, let them do more and more on their own, until they don't need you to help them at all.

I am not sorry. This made me laugh A LOT. I have had a similar experience though, and I am sure to have more. My son isn't too fond of the potty at the moment, though he does like taking his own trainers off when he doesn't want to wear them anymore.... Cheers.

My mom says we grow out of that phase....I wouldn't wear clothes if it wouldn't embarrass so many other people.
