Locking a computer

I run a program on my computer most of the time, BOINC.
My computer turns on at 2am (long story) and automatically runs BOINC.
Problem is, I want to be able to lock my computer and have it continue running. However, if I add a password then it will be required on start up, meaning that BOINC won't be able to run until I put in the password.
Basically, I want my computer to run without needing a password, but I want to be able to lock it with a password when it is already on, as I don't want people prying into my files.
Is this possible?
Thanks.

You have not mentioned which OS you are running. Anyways, Windows has inbuilt locking facility already. They activate when you press Windows+L, it does not halt any program also. You can use screensaver also. In settings you can find password protected option. In a MAC, it is lock screen which promptly locks the screen with a password when it is activated.

im using a program called lockpc you can just search it on the net. it's very good program that less than 1MB in size, its primary use it is to lock your pc.you can put administrator password so nobody can open your pc or use it. if your planning to automatically lock your pc after BOINC starts maybe you can try putting a shorcut to the startup folder under programs. hope that helps.
have a nice day!
