It depends on where I'm going - if I'm travelling domestic ( meaning to any 50 states), my driver's license usually suffice. Of course, if there is some sort of mishap - I know my social security number by heart. If I'm travelling internationally, then I have to bring my passport. I typically carry it in my purse - and not leave it in the hotel room. If the hotel room burned down - then you have no documentation that you're a citizen of another country. I think it's just important to be cautious when you're travelling - domestic or international.

I usually carry my passport with me at all times when I am on my trip. I carry it securely and take it to bed with me, in the shower and in the sea. It never leaves my person because it is my most important possession. I can't imagine losing it or being asked to show it to an official when it is locked in my accommodation. I read about a hotel that got traveler's credit cards out and then employees went shopping. When the travelers got home they got nasty shocks. I can't imagine the bother of having my passport stolen.

In foreign countries I keep my passport with me. Sometimes the hotel wants to keep it but I make sure to hold onto it. Get a passport pouch that can hold some money and credit cards that you can keep around your neck but under your clothes where you can't be pickpocketed. Don't put any metal with it (coins, keys, etc.) and you can go through security metal scanners without removing it. Never had a problem and always felt secure.
Also, be sure to keep a copy of your passport when you travel too. Put it in your suitcase separate from your travel documents. That way if you lose your passport, you can get a replacement from the local U.S. embassy much quicker.

Well hunieby,
It is not advisable to leave your passport around. The reasons for this is that it would be very troublesome for you if someone misplaced or if it got stolen. It is because there are many people can assess your room while you are out. So I think it is safer for you to take it with you.
Cheers.

I never take the risk of leaving my passport in my hotel room and I always used to carry them nywhere I go. When I was in Canada, the security personnel asked for my passport to check my identity and i obliged to it. It was their regular duty. Had I been without passport at that time, then I could have faced severe problems. Hence I advise others to carry their passpoerts along with them whenever and wherever they go. Thanks for starting the discussion and have a very great day. Happy Mylotting. Cheers:-)

I don't think it is necessary to take passport with us where ever we go because it is the most important ID proof and have to be more careful in keeping it with us. When you are not out of your country just place it in your home.
But in case you are in any other country just keep it where ever you go, but have an eye on it till you reach your mother land.
