37,000 denominations in Christianity!!!!!

Studies have shown that there are over 37,000 different denominations in Christianity - all with the same Bible! Jesus came to earth just 2000 years ago, and in 2000 years, there are so many divisions! Interestingly, a study of the Book of Acts, shows that Christianity was not a religion when it was started off, but it was just a way of life. So, which of these 37,000 denominations is the right one? In Luke 18:8, Jesus said "When the Son of man arrives, will he really find the faith on the earth?" He also said in Matthew 7:13-23 "Not everyone saying to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will." So who is carrying out the will of the Father? And when Jesus started just one way, why are there so many denominations and divisions? Have you looked into the basis of your beliefs? How do you know that your's is the right one? Would appreciate answers to this. And please, no slamming any denominations. I just would like a simple answer - about YOUR denomination and the basis of your belief that the one you are in is the right one.

There are some differences with the denominations that just don't matter; but to know which is correct, test the doctrine of any denomination to see if it measures up with Scripture. What is that denomination teaching? Is that what Jesus taught? Does the denomination compromise with the world to make it popular with people, or is it loyal to the teachings of Jesus even if the world condemns it?

Watch Zeitgeist ^_^ lol, just sharing, I dunno what to say.. for me it's just religion is for someone who is weak. They find religion as a strength so they can move forward.. ^_^ I believe in god but I don't do the same thing as Christians mostly do. I have my own beliefs ^_^

not all religions follow the same kind of solar myths. there is a lot of variation. if you look at it from a semetic point of view, yes, there is lot in common with the traditions followed in the surrounding areas. but when you take it to else where especially to asia, and particularly to India, the whole thing changes. the dates, the myths every thing is different. but somehow people do not look at it carefully. they just try to fit it into anything, because they want to prove their point just as these religions want to prove their point.

I have watched Zeitgeist and it is based upon faulty logic and distortions of history. Some of the things they claim are just falt out lies. some are correct but as for the claim that christianity is a solor religion rehatched there is no actual proof all the manuscripts were written after the time of Jesus. I actually urge you to You tube this subject and listen to some rebuttals. it may be boring but the information is accurate. Zietgeist is propaghanda

1 Corinthians 9:16 (New International Version) 16Yet when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! Paul understood that to be a follower of Jesus would mean to be a preacher of the good news of the kingdom of God. That's what Jesus did when he was on earth. That's what all the early Christians did. Preaching the gospel of the kingdom would be an important identifying mark of Jesus' followers today.

Very true. That was the last command Jesus gave His disciples before he ascended to Heaven (Matthew 28:19,20). Another identifying mark that he gave is love among his disciples (John 13:35).

I was very discouraged with the denominations of the church, and because of this, I simply stopped going for a while. None of them seemed to be fully following the Bible. I started researching different denominations and their beliefs, I even thought about becoming a Messianic Jew. But then I began to read about the Mennonites - an Anabaptist faith. Reading about their beliefs made me say, wow! They actually make sense! The Anabaptists were persecuted during the reformation by both the Catholics and Protestants for their radical beliefs: adult only baptism, rejection of the use of force (and thus, refusal to serve in or support the military), and the rejection of wealth. Today the Mennonites are pacifists who value peacemaking, community, and living simply. We try to live as Jesus did.

Oh, and a further note, although we are a denomination we do not discriminate against other denominations. Because of our value of community we partner with churches of other denominations in the community. We even have occasional joint services!

Ah, but there was a time when there was only one christian church. Catholics have that honor. People can never always agree so some protested. Then came the Protestants. All the different denominations followed after that. Whose really right????? None of them. Sorry folks, but none of these people are 100 percent wrong either. I know each and everyone of them gives unconditional love to everyone they meet. The fighting is over.RIGHT????? Well, I can hope.

"I know each and everyone of them gives unconditional love to everyone they meet." If only this were the case.

When Jesus brought Christianity, he did not create divisions, it is people that create these divisions and it is not right. I don't believe in denominations because God would not ask you what denomination you are in when you go to heaven. The only way to practice your christianity is to follow what the Bible says

How can you possibly know the right one? There are many different religions and even more if you count the subsects. Each religion has many differences in opinion based on dogma and doctrine as well as other fundamental issues.

For me its become pentecostal. I wasn't pentecostal to start but life happens and I was lead to where I was suppose to be. I have faith that its the right one for me and if I am to go on elsewhere I have faith that I will find my way there also. I don't think denomination matters as much as doing the right things. Charity is very high on the list after all Jesus said as you have done to the least so have you done unto him.

There are a lot of denominations, but all NOT with same Bible. Catholic Bible has 77 Books, Protestant Bible has only 66 Books, Other denominations has removed some books and added some other. Denominations like LDS has some other extra books in it. The Coptic Bible is much different. After all even the translations are too different again, In some editions some verses has been removed by marking it as a concoction, interpolation etc. Also if you look at the source, many sources has different versions, some sources even does not exists nowadays. Jesus is saying not to call Jesus as Lord, but call the Creator as Lord and keep his commandments. Christianity is not about the teachings of Jesus, but it is the confused theory developed based on the crucifixion and resurrection theory which mostly going against the teachings of Jesus. Jesus never said, I'm God worship me. But Jesus was preaching 'Lord OUR God is ONE, worship him alone and keep his commandments, God sent Jeus, Jesus said:Jesus can't do anything himself but only the will of father, What miracles Jesus doing is with permission of God and God can do many bigger things than that, Jesus was a man among the children of Israel to revive their faith. But the new theories made him a God and son of God. Indeed God is so Gracious to have a son like animals. Also read my discussion "Teachings of Jesus Christ... The God is... http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2165619.aspx May Almighty God guide us to the right path. Peace.

Hi joynatarajan, You are right in saying Christianity was not a religion but a way of life. That is exactly what Jesus taught, he didn't want to start a new religion, in fact he knew that there was no need of it. His way was the right way, the only way, but it didn't matter who taught it or what the name of the religion was. As you might guess, I am spiritual but not religious, there is no one true religion but there is one way and that is the way of love that Jesus and many others taught. Condemn no one, show yourself the friend of all. Help bring peace to the world. Go to any church, mosque or temple or go to none, it doesn't matter for life itself is prayer. Blessings.

Hi joy narajan: thanks for your post. My opinion is that even if we have difference what matter is if we really beleive in Jesus and if we follow what he told in the Bible being good to our brothers, predicting with our actions the salvation. You can else read in the Bible that the Apostol ask us to state unite. From the beginnig they existed divitions and fights through the Christians. For me the question is not what are our difference but can we love each other's as God's sons, can we do what Jesus says. If we're able to predict god's love message and we do all these thing you'll be a good Christian no matter denomination. Those 37,000 denominations are just names but there's only one Christ and that's what matter. Even with that, i'm a catholic and i'm not only affiliate to this denomination but i really beleif in what i do. My two best friends are an atheist and a protestand, i'm very tolerant because i think religion is not about telling the others what to do but to be a better person day after day. Thanks again for posting this question. God bless you.

to me the right way is the one that teaches about Jesus. Jesus said you will know them for they will speak of Him, about Him and for Him. All things was given unto Him in heaven and earth. When asking about what you hear and read is where the faith comes in. Alot are good people, alot are brought up in some ways stronger than others. But to know is to pray for guideance from the Lord to show you the one He wants you in not mans way but His way. He will, I went to maybe 5 differant ones and was indeed confused and not understand why this one why that one but then I asked ok show me , show me where you want me. and He will show you , you may think well how will He show you but you will know, you will feel differant and happy and hungry for His word. In all things ask and you will find. Not mans wany but God will show you..Ask God to show you where He wants you.
