O this is funny you know, sometimes i noticed if there are other people knocking at our gate, our Chihuahua barks larger than our Labrador, i do not know why her barks is larger than a big dog but it is true, and sometimes it irritates me when she barks. Damn that Chihuahua not a normal bark. Imagine she was that small? LOL.. Can't help but asked this to you.. Have you seen a Chihuahua bark's louder than a big dog? Have you experienced this? and sometimes she was even more aggressive and dangerous than our big dogs. LOL...

We have two chihuahua's! They do have a ferocious bark but I don't think I've ever heard a big dog next to a small dog bark so sorry I can't be of more help there!

Yep two chihuahua's. They are adorable whilst laying together but do tend to pee and poop, very hard to train animals. We got rid of two others and kept one then got another one. We weren't intending on getting the other one, but we don't like to hear of dogs suffering so we took the other one in.

I heard that small dogs bark louder than big dogs.I am not sure why,but they do.I think this is their coping mechanism.they are small, and they are not that visible.so they have loud barks that can easily be heard and noticed.they have loud barks to let people know,"HEY,I'M HERE!DON'T IGNORE ME!".

Don't have a Chihuahua but do have a Papillion which is very close in size and build and yes she is much more aggressive and loud than our walker hound. Often Delilah, my papillion will bark at someone coming in the door while Bunny, the hound just wags her tail.
We call it little dog syndrome in our house. Delilah feels that she has to make her presence know and that she runs the place. But it makes me feel somewhat safer knowing that she will bark whenever she hears something because people never know what is on the other side of the door.

It is surprising that small dogs often bark louder than big ones and they bark more often than the big ones. This is characteristic to almost everything. YOu find people with great talent really down to earth and humble and those with nothing so much of proud of themselves. In nature, the branch with most fruits bends the most.

Yeah, some of my neighbors have Chihuahuas and those little things are noisy. I will go to my neighbors and tell them to give them a doggie biscuit or something to keep them quiet because they are so loud. As you can all probably tell, I am not a fan of Chihuahuas. I have four cats, and they don't drive me that crazy. Oh, my friend, who is now in the Army, once had Chihuahua, and her dog nearly ripped her whole house apart. She had to give it back to the people she got it from because she could not handle it. They are high energy dogs.

You are right they are really noisy, sometimes i really get angry with them, because they will bark in the middle of the night, and of course i will assume that something really bad is happening outside so i will go and take a look, but in the end, damn, they only bark because of a cat and very loud barks.

hi rjvb yes they have a high pitched bark, and the darned little
dog can be a worse bitter than a Lab. I once was sent to deliver a prescription to a lady who could not get out to the hospital. I was a nurse's aide at the hospital, and they asked me to carry the bottle to this elderly lady.well when I waded through snow drifts up to my knees, I sure did not expect to be bitten on the ankle by a teeny chihuahua dog.The woman opened the door and had the dog in her arms. she set the dog down asked me to step in out of the cold, and when she did the dog bit me on my ankle. a deep bite too.She wouldnt believe her dog could do that, so I just went back to the hospital. the doctor on call there looked at the bite, a nd insisted on putting in three stitches in the wound. also he called the lady to find out if the dog had had its rabies shots and it had thank goodness for that.

The reason for the louder bark and more aggressive nature is in the breeding rather than the size. Labbies were bred to be retrievers for hunters which required patience and control and no bark (don't want to scare off the target).
Chihuahuas, on the other hand, were bred for vermin control (like rats) which required a more aggressive nature..they had to be as nasty tempermentally as the vermin..
Enjoy!

My boyfriends chihuahua is not necessarily louder but she is definitely more aggressive then my big dog. I think little dogs are meaner because they have more to prove. Big dogs don't need to prove that they are tough. Plus I think they get a different response. Everyone thinks it's cute when Cuddles growls and barks at people or bigger dogs. But if my big dog was to act like that it would scare people so it's not encouraged.
