Are you a wired worker?

A good friend gave me a book entitled "Turn It Off" written by Gil Gordon. Based on the cover's wordings, the book provides guidelines on "how to unplug from the anytime-anywhere office without disconnecting your career." He gave me the book because he saw me working anytime-anywhere using my laptop and cellphone. The back cover says that for millions of "wired workers," the good news is also the bad news. The mobile office technologies like e-mail, cellphones, laptops, personal digital assistants, etc. which were supposed to liberate us from the workplace have actually taken us "hostages." These mobile office technologies have taken control over us instead of us controlling them. Yes, it's been out of control. Many of us now checks e-mails or accepts business calls late at night, or even on weekend/vacation with our families. As the back cover says, this book could provide you "practical advice on how to regain control and obtain a sense of balance between the real demands of today's business world and your personal need to get - and really live - a life." How about you myLotters, how do you manage your time as a wired worker? How do you control these mobile office technologies? Is there any instance when you feel that these gadgets are already controlling your personal life?

I thought the question was "Are you a weird worker?" Hahahah! Anyway, I can say that I am not. I do not take work at home, even after the normal office hours. If I had to work overtime well it's fine with me. But as much as possible I don't want to spend most of my weekends in the office, working.

Glad to know that you're not one of the many wired workers of this generation's workforce. You are correct, weekends should not be spent working in the office. Weekends should be spent with our families.
