Until you rate others, your star rating will not improve...

Is this true? When I completed my 100 posts I had a 7 star. I did not usually rate discussions or responses. I was stuck on 7 for a long time. Suddenly one day I started rating responses and then within a week I reached 9. I thought it was coincidence. But recently a friend of mine had a similar experience. Do you think unless and until we rate others our ratings do not improve? Have your star rating improved even though you have not rated others?

I see, you have got your star rating. How is yours' so low? I see many members getting low stars recently. I just do not know what is wrong with them. None of them looks bad. I mean how many discussions did you get deleted or how many mylot rules have you violated to get a 3?

That is true. But when the discussion violates mylot guidelines, that is usually when others give negative ratings. That is what I been told by some mylotters. Moreover, my ratings dropped twice when my discussions were deleted. I think mylot also gives a negetive rating when we violate their rules and they delete our responses or discussions.

hi sagnik, sorry but i don't think that's the reason. we all understand what you are trying to say and we are all saying the same thing coz that's the truth, stars depends on how we are rated.
well, before, i have a 8 star , then it become 9 and now ten. but i don't usually rate before, i just start rating others when i already have a blue star...

It seems that I could not explain myself properly. Everybody is saying the same thing.
Look, maybe something like this happened to me. I got a 7. Then my responses got rated but since I did not rate anybody, mylot did not update my rating. It can so happen that mylot does not update the ratings of members who do not rate others. Maybe when I started rating others mylot updated my ratings and it improved. I hope I have made myself clear now.

This certainly sounds like a coincidence to me. It is very unlikely that rating others would have any effect on your own rating because that would give the opportunity to increase your rating without offering any worthwhile discussions or responses.

Actually what I meant was that, if others rate you and if you do not rate others, then your star rating would not take effect. As soon as you start rating others the already acquired ratings will start to show.
Of course I am not sure. It can also be a coincidence. But just thought of asking you guys. After all you have known this site better than me. Thank you.

You don't have to rate others in order to be rated yourself. The ratings all depend on the quality of your posts and if your posts are worth of a positive rating or a negative. There will be some that will rate negatie no matter what, but mostly becauser they don't agree with other users, and it shouldn't be that way, but it is. I rate users positive mostly, but there are times when I won't rate at all. I hope this has helped you understand what the rating systme is all about and how it works. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Wow! I never thought of this one…I’ve a bright red 9 since the age of dinosaurs LOL…maybe this is true! I’ve never rated anybody here ever, except on three occasions when I rated those discussions as –ve! I’ll try and implement it on myself and if my rating improves, I’ll surely let you know.

i think your rating depends on how you respond or reply in some posts, or make a topic. It just depend on myLot.
