What would you do if your spouse (or boyfriend/girlfriend) hit you?

I am lucky to know that my husband would NEVER hit me in a million years, but I do know people who are in somewhat of abusive relationships. It seems like most people are too scared to get out of abusive relationships, would you be? I feel sorry for those people, but if you love someone so much and they hit you, it would still be hard to leave them. If the love of your life ever laid a hand on you, would you leave them? Would you give them a second chance? What if it happened again, would you leave them then, or continue to give them second chances?
