I have a leather sofa and in the summer it is nice,as well as if you spill drink on it you can wipe it off.In the winter it is soo cold to sit on a leather sofa.A material sofa is nice to sit on,but you always have to end up washing it.If you spill anything on it then you have a problem getting it clean and dry unlike a leather sofa.

I don't like leather sofas at all, because its to cold to the touch and just very cold looking to me. I prefer a material sofa where its cozy and warm. When you buy a sofa they offer a scotch guard that works wonders. If you spill something on it, it will not stain. That is what I have done in the past and will continue.

Microfiber that looks like suede is wonderful and easy to keep clean.

Yes I agree I forgot about that material. My daughter had that type of furniture in the past.

well is actually interesting you ask that. I happen to own leather living room furniture and find it easy to maintain, clean that is, plus it looks contemporary and if I want to buy new stuff to decorate it tends to go with just about everything.

I prefer material although the reasons you stated, cool in summer (unless your sweating then it's sticky) and easier to keep clean are great cases for leather. I stick with material for the warmth and comfort but son has a leather love seat in his bedroom and loves it 'mom I spilled this or that and it cleaned right up' - lol he's 18 :)

I prefer a cloth sofa. The leather sofas definitely have their place. Some are to stiff and cold. If I were going to take a nap on a sofa, I would prefer cloth or a very, very, very soft leather.

I prefer no sofa. I have a futon in one room, but that is not for sitting on as much as to have available if someone needs to sleep over.

Leather is cold as you said but it is nice if you spill something on it. I have material sofa I got them when they were on sale so I guess I will have to stay with it.

I have a 3 year old son and I don't like a material sofa at all. You can't wash the whole sofa and stinks lol. I would love to have a leather sofa.

I prefer a fabric sofa. I can't sit naked on a leather one without clinging to it, especially in the hot weather. When my husband and I are at home alone, we don't usually wear clothes, so we need a couch that we can sit on naked. LOL

I've never owned a leather sofa so I cannot really compare. Though I do like how classy leather does look. Perhaps one day when the kids are older or moved out

Hi, jugsjugs! I like them both for the same reasons that you like yours.. With me having children, I would prefer to have the leather sofa in my home.. My kids spill many liquids. So this would be a great option for me to have.. I like the material because it is very warm when it is cold inside of the home.. I like to cozy up on the material one. The leather makes me feel like I am in an office..

I like a leather sofa if it is a soft Italian type of leather. My mother has one of those in her basement and it is the most comfortable sofa that I've ever sat on. I loved laying on it during the winter time even though it was cold at first because it didn't take very long before it was warmed up with your body temperature and so warm and toasty. However, I also like a microfiber sofa. Yes, they are more difficult to clean, but the are still very soft and comfy. Overall, if I had to make a choice of the two different materials for a sofa, it would actually mostly depend on how comfortable each was.

With the weather that we have in the Philippines, leather sofa is only good if it is placed in an air conditioned room. Easy to care for as well. Easier to clean. Still, I prefer using velvety sofa because it is comfortable to use. However, as you mentioned, sooo hard to clean as well. You have to change the upholstery every other year. Otherwise, it gets so smelly because of the absorbed sweat.

Here we are unable to buy leather sofa, they are very costly, most of the so said leather goods are now synthetic leather, infact good quality rexine that look like original leather, i have 4 sets of sofa made from this stuff, the base is 6 inch thick high density polysterene.. Best of luck. Professor

I have a soft leather lounge suite and I like it all year round. We have very hot, very humid summers and almost no winter. It is much cooler in the summer than the fabric one we had previously, and is fine in the winter. Leather is easy to clean and looks good.

There are pros and cons to both leather and material sofa's. The leather looks nice and it shines when light hits it giving it a spot lighted look. On the other hand leather takes on the tempature that's in the room depending if the sun hits it and it's also easy to tear. Material comes with more styles so you can pick it out to match the room or the feeling that you want to create in the room. In my opinion for a non-lived in room leather is great, but go with material if you want to make your home more comfertable and not robotic.

My preference is always a leather sofa. Though it is costly, maintenance is easy. As you told, cleaning the spilling things will be easier. Further leather sofa will be very soft also. Material sofa, though cushion is there, is difficult to clean and softness is less compared to leather sofa.

Hi ... i was just thinking about this topic the other day. It's quite cold here, and I was sitting on my leather sofa, and thought that I would freeze! Its nearly time that the sofa should be replaced, and I am strongly thinking about changing away from the leather kind to a nice soft material, but I must admit that the leather does generally look much better. Im a little confused as to what to do. I certainly dont want to sit on a cold sofa, but I dont want to have a sofa that will look terrible after a spillage which cant be cleaned up! happy myLotting!
