Would you ever be hypnotized to lose weight or quit smoking?

I have often wondered if these worked and for how long. We have a new hypnotist in the community that advertises for help with weight loss and now I see one about helping with cigarette smoking. I have seen it done in shows and such and I wonder if it is realistic to think that this could help. I am unable to be hypnotized and I think it is because i won't let someone have that kind of control over me. Would you be hypnotized? Have you been in the past? What are your thoughts?

Not sure if it would work on me or not to be hypnotized. I have hear dof people that were to quit smoking and it only worked for alittle while . Dont think I want to try it. and my daughter says I have to much energy flowing from me so wouldnt take lol. SHe refuses to give me a massage on that same reason she feels my energies flowing and she dont like it.

I have heard of that but have never had it done for anything. I have heard it's very effective but I also think that for it to work a person has to be "open" to it. I'm like you..I'm not sure I could be hypnotized or if i could..I don't know if I could handle letting someone have control over my mind. I don't like the thought of that.

I recall when my ex-husband and I went to a magic show one time and the magician chose some people from the audience and was actually able to hypnotize my husband. He was told under hypnosis that there was something in his boot and the key word woould be 'onion'. Sure enough when the hypnotist said 'onion' my ex starting squirming and finally took his boot off and examined it and his foot. Ofcourse everyone was laughing and he was looking around wondering in the world was going on. It was rather amusing.

I would be interested in using hypnosis to help me lose weight, and also to help with self esteem too.

Years ago I did get hypnotized to quit smoking. I went with my friend. It was pretty cool really and very relaxing but unfortunately it did not work for me. I was able to go back for free and I did but still, it just didn't work. My friend was able to quit for a long time afterwards but eventually did go back to it. I do think it could work on some people but I was definitly not one of them.

I have never been hypnotized, but I would like to try it one day. I have some phobias that I haven't been able to overcome, and I would like to try hypnosis. I don't know if it will work, but I think it is worth a try. I am not going to do it at the moment, because I can't afford it, but maybe one day. I am open for the idea. My mother has a friend who had some sessions with a hypnotherapist. She also had a phobia, I don't remember what kind of phobia it was, but hypnotherapy worked really well in her case and she got a rid of her phobia.

Some people can't be. So some can be helped and some can't.

Hi celtic, I really don't believe in it but it might work if someone believed in it enough and had the mind set aleady to sort these things out. I think they could use it as a reinforcement for what they really want to do. Used by someone just looking for a quick fix solution I'd say definitely no, do the work. I very much doubt that I could be hypnotised, the mind needs to be open to this kind of thing and believe in it, I wouldn't hand over a bit of my mind.

I have never attempted to be hypnotized, and I do not know if it would work. It would be worth it to me for weight loss. I have read articles about self hypnosis to reach goals and modify habits, and this discussion sort of makes me want to try to do something along that line. It sure could not hurt. I do not smoke, but I also do not lose weight, no matter how hard I try.

hello, celticeagle i am not hypnotized but i believe it is useful and it is mystery.i took part in a party last year, and the host introduce a hypnotist for us,he was famous in his field.the hypnotist played a show for us.he made a man stiff just like a wood.then the hypnotist put him lie down two chairs, his head on the chair and his feet on the other chair, and their is no things to support his body, just like a brige over the valley.and then the hypnotist let a person stood on the man's bingy.how miraculous it was.do you believe it?i am the person who stood on the man's bingy!hest wishes

Well, I have been hypnotized before, but it wasn't for anything productive, it was all just for fun. As far as I know I have never heard of people doing this in order to change apart of their lives. The only thing that I seemed to get out of it was that when he woke us up I felt as if I had gotten the best sleep of my life. I don't think that being hypnotized will have long term effects. In the same aspect there are Doctors that give out sugar pills.... Mind over matter. So maybe if you were to try it out it might help just because of that fact that you believe that it will work..... who knows it never hurts to try
