i got an email from some where saying that this dog named oreo had been rescued by ASPCA and they had done all these surgeries to save its life and then the other day they put oreo down.. that there was another shelter that was a NO KILL shelter that said they would take him/her and yet after saving him/her they kill the dog.. wtf?!?!
can some one explain this?! i mean did they have a reason to do it (such as maybe the dog wasnt recovering as everyone thought) and that they are just getting slandered against or have they lost their minds and defeated the whole purpose of what they had set out to do and set out to be as an example? i mean you never can tell when you hear stuff like this if there was another side to the story and people are just trying to get people all stirred up but ugh poor oreo

So Sad for Oreo! This caught my eye, because I have a dog named Oreo, so I just had to read all the posts and learn what happened. It's such a shame that someone else could not have stepped up and volunteered to train her to be people friendly!

This still breaks my heart! I guess what's in my power is to pray for softened hearts, and to do all I can in my own part of the nation to help. All the dogs I've ever had have been rescues ........ One we have now was from PetFinder.com because they rescue pets from "kill" shelters, save them, then potential Moms and Dads have to apply for them! I just wish they could have rescued Oreo!

Was there a reason given for putting down the dog?
Is it because after the dog recovered, it has some personality flaws that cannot be gotten rid of even with training that is why the killed the dog.
Or is it because the dog has other medical problems that killing it would have been more human to put it out of its misery?
There are so many reason possible. What was the reason given for putting that dog down?

apparently their reason was he was vicious because he was abused but there were people that wanted him and didnt care so to me that should have at least let the safe havens that wanted to rescue him give it a try

My sister takes in a lot of animals that need a home and can't find one, are about to be put down, or have some kind of illness or disability that prevents them from being adopted. She gives them a really great home, and they live the rest of their lives getting the kind of treatment they deserve. Every town should have a lady like my sister.

Such a sad story. It goes to show that even more efforts are needed to prevent the abuse of all animals. Oreo could have his Physical injuries healed but not the psychological ones. We need to do more than just cry - we need to report abuse. And support our shelters. They did their best for Oreo. His 'owner' should be given the maximum sentence. What happened to the owner? See www.aspca.org/pressroom/press-releases/111309.html
