20-20 is transforming cricket in to Baseball - watch the ball - hit the ball - and you are out if you miss the ball.
Though 20-20 is more popular its overdose is reversing the trend. ICC champion's trophy in SA had higher TV ratings than T-20 world cup in Eng. TV ratings for Ind Vs Aus ODI (in which sachin scored 175) were highest for any format of the game in last two years. Number of viewers for Ashes series were more than those for ENG - Aus ODI series which followed it. Some rivalries are alwayes loved irrespective of the format. What ICC should do is cut short meaningless matches or tournaments.
Look at it the other way - because of T-20 many non cricket playing nations have started playing cricket (Afganistan, Hong kong, Kuwait, Nepal, Oman, Quatar, Singapur and UAE are playing in this years Asian Counsil's T-20 Cup) and those who have already started are trying hard to get test status (Ireland and Scotland are already knocking on the doors). Even Olympic Association is thinking about including T-20 in Olympics. So... What do you think now?

I think the popularity of T20 can only be credited to the fact that people do not have timeand they need more entertainment in as sort a duration as possible. And person who understands cricket well would agree with me when I say T20 is all about power hitting and less oftemperament or skill. That doesn't mean skillful players will not be successful in T20.
But the joy of winning a test match is much higher than winning a T20 match.I think what Younus Kanh said after losing awarm up matchagainst India in T20 world cup in england is very true.Play T20to enjoy it.T20 is not meaningful cricket. Its all entertainment. Iwould say it is more meaningfulwhen I can see a single eam winning 3 consecutive T20 world cups like Australia didin ODI. Else its all luck and big hitting.

Yes, today T20 is more popular than ODI and test cricket because it is bringing crowds from different age groups into the stadium. Also, as a match lasts hardly 3 hours it is less time consuming and thus more people prefer it to ODIs and Test matches.
Players though prefer Test matches to ODIs or T20s.
Cheers!
