Christmas too soon?

As so many people have seen the T.v. stations have begun playing Christmas movies. ABC family even has a count down to their 25 days of Christmas count down (totally insane to me by the way). To me it is just too early for all of this Christmas stuff. We haven't even had the chance to celebrate Thanksgiving! For goodness sakes we still have a little over a week until that holiday even happens. Am I the only one that feels the media and merchandise communities are trying to force us into spending money we do not have by pushing the winter holiday season at us early?

I used to like christmas, now it is just too commercialized and all the children want want want and don't even know the true meaning of christmas. I try to tell my son what it is about and we don't have money, so I try to let him know ahead of time that Santa can only bring so much and he may not get what he put on his list. Stores make it harder for families to deal with what kids want and right now the economy is soo terrible, many are not working, already trying to find a way to pay rent...its sad.
I actually went and put stuff on layaway back in September to make sure I had a few things to put under the tree. I like to have christmas to get back like it used to be...family, friends, giving, sharing, and Jesus. Making it more memorable and thoughtful..not greedy and unpleasant.

That is neat and seeing what the grandchildren and children make would be so adorable and something to cherish. This will make it more thoughtful and enjoyable, that is a wonderful idea. Also help the children learn the value of giving and it don't have to cost a fortune or even be from a store. :))

Well we made it clear that the family can only give handmade items this year and that the kids would have to make some for each other as well as us. This freed up a little cash for me to get Santa gifts though there will not be a lot of them anyway.

Yea, the whole Christmas rush starts way to soon and it's all about the money. It's what the stores can sell. Now, i understand that retailers want this season to last as long as possible. this is when they really make the most of their money. But, with them starting earlier, the whole media blitz starts earlier, and I drove home from work listening to Christmas music.
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but with the season starting so early (pretty much right after Halloween), it has take some of the joy, excitement and enthusiasm out of it for me. By the time December comes, I'm already counting the day until it will all be over.

Yes it Holiday over load. By the time Christmas is actually here I am so sick of hearing even my most favorite Christmas songs, and I love Christmas carols. It's just too much for too long and like the saying goes too much of a good thing.....

I LOVE christmas but these countdowns are killing me!!! I want them to slow down and just quit commercalizing so much! I Love that they have already started playing christmas music though! I love it! I love EVERYTHING about christmas...well except black friday : ( I think everybody need to sit back and think about the true meaning of christmas.. Jesus. He would have hated the way our society is so obsessed with recieving and not giving. Gifts and good will.
They are def trying to force us into the holiday earlier. But its no different than any other year LOL

I think it is pretty much a gibben now days that from after Halloween until New Year's Day is now termed as 'the holidays. And believe me you are not the first one to come here and several other sites and say just what you are saying. It's all inclusive, not really thrust upon you. Just a long drawn out time of joy and celebration for family and friends.

Yes, there is so much of that around! The tv contributes to getting us all into the Christmas spirit. By the time Christmas is over some people start preparing to buy their Christmas presents early for the next one! I do love all the hype I must admit but I'm not really encouraged to spend money just because a tv advert tells me to do so!. I guess that time of year is quickly approaching once more and I'm wondering what has happened to the year, it has gone by so fast! Andrew

I think its ridiculous too. Whenever I see that commercial on ABC family I think about how much I hate it. Like, I love Christmas and everything, but in recent years, its like Christmas dominates all of November and December.

well it seems to be draging slowly except at walmart. they have this big counter than counts off the days til christmas. i havent seen any christmas specials as of yet on tv nor heard any christmas carols.
the reason the stores rush into christmas is because its their biggest money making season.

I agree. I think that it comes way to early. Seems like every year it starts earlier and earlier. I love the holidays but I like it to start at Thanksgiving and not at Halloween.

Hasn't it always been that way though? I live in NYC and for as long as I can remember, stores seem to decorate for Christmas earlier every year, and people tend to decorate their windows, or their homes earlier each year as well. I think most people don't bother waiting for Thanksgiving to pass since they see that holiday more or less a day they can see family and eat. But people for the most part see Christmas as a much bigger holiday mainly because there's so many ways in which they can decorate and it's exciting to look for gifts for people and to just get lost in all the excitement. I definitely love Christmas and think when the end of the year is nearing it's hard not to think about it or want to get ready for it.

christmas is not biblical, that is why the spirit of god is moving you to give up such beleive and face things of eternal value, althogh is not bad to celebrate ones birth day even if we dont know the date, but most inportant thing is if you are in good relationship with him, are you doing those things that pleases, him is jesus in you.
