Body modification

I recently watched a documentary on body modifications: tattoos and piercings being the 'mildest' form of body modifications. The more extreme are implants and eye ball tattoos. SO with the implants they specifically showed people with horns (yes, like devil horns) implanted in their foreheads and other circular implants in the arms.
My concern is not what the people are doing but that in the US there are no laws regulating body modifications. In other words, a tattoo artist performs the surgical procedure without anaesthetic. The tattoo artist uses a scalpel, places the implant under the skin and then stitches it up.
Personally I would not trust a medically unlicensed person to perform a surgical procedure on me. The risk of infections are so high as this is not done in a sterile environment (as in a hospital). What are your feelings about this? Would you trust a tattoo artist to perform a surgical procedure?

I completely agree with you and I also wouldn't let an unlicensed person perform a surgical procedure on me. That is extremely dangerous and the sad thing us not everyone cares I guess it's like a do at ur own risk type of thing

To me, it's unbelievable the risks people take to be different - to separate themselves from the "norms" of society. I wonder how many people have ended up in emergency rooms with complications due to this?
