Do you rate the respondents of your topic? If you do... Is it positive or negative? If i were to answer that question, i will say yes i did. I always rate my the respondents of my topic, it is a sort of reward. I rate + often times when i see that the answer is good, with sense, and not offensive, not offensive meaning very mean and can really hurt a person. It is ok to criticize but we need to choose the words that we will use, cause if not it will surely hurt a person. Anyway back to the topic, i also rate - sign if i really feel that it is worth to get a - sign. But often times i rate the +, cause i hate being given the - sign, that is why i give +. I believe in the saying "do not do unto others what you do not want others do unto you" hehehehe. How about you?

I very rarely rate. And when I do it is usually when someone's response just jumps off the page as ver well thought out and thought provoking. Or, when it is very obvious posted just to hurt someone. It is against guidelines here on myLot to rate merely because you disagree with the opinion expressed. You must be very careful not to do this. I have rated a positive to those I disagree with, but whose response was very well presented and well thought out. That is the purpose of the rating system. To help those who do their best to discuss, not argue.

I might add...it is against the guidelines to just rate a positive cause the person responding is your friend and you like them, it is responses we are to rate, not people.

O yeah i know that. I rate because of the post not because of the people, and one thing, why is there a negative sign here if we will not use it. I think it is useless and it is better to remove it if we will not use it. For me i am just making use of it, but i am careful when i give a negative sign, sometimes we really do need to do it, cause it will also benefit them to post more good responses and long responses. It is for them to learn not because i only want to give them negative response. You can even give me here right now if you want. I only use two the + and the minus - i do not use the ! so i think it is ok. If the case here is not using negative sign i think it is better for mylot to use the star ratings just like what other website is using. You know the 5 stars? Like youtube and other sites? I think it is much better so i will not be that offensive when giving negative signs.

I do rate the responses I receive accordingly. I try to rate others’ discussions too. I very rarely rate negatively although I have used the report abuse button mainly for posts I have come across that are plagiarised because it’s not right and it’s a pet hate of mine! I suppose it is not a compulsory thing to do but as you say, “Do unto others...” If you want to be rated positively you should do the same for others if it is deserved.

Hi, I have never ever rated anyone negative so far. There is no need to do that especially those who contribute to your discussions.I feel that in a discussion site we have the right to criticise and comment, which may otr may not be liked by the person. One should be prepared for all kinds of responses while starting a discussion otherwise it beats the very purpose of starting a discussion in the first place. All the best and happy mylotting

O yes you are right, we should be ready to accept what will be the response of others to our discussion and i think we should also be ready for the markings that they will give? Right? Accept and prepared right? Cause if mylot and us thinks that the negative sign is not much of i need in the discussions, i think mylot should remove it. It is useless. Why do you think they put it here? To use it right? Then why not make use of it? It only depends on the response, it is ok to be criticized as it will be a toll for us to be a better individual, but the word is criticized not insult and disrespect. And i think the negative and exclamation sign is enough for that kind of behavior. If the opinion is against our will or criticizing our discussions, it is ok, it is good, it will make us think to post of more relevant and much needed discussions and response. But what if the response is way too personal and already using words that is not so good to read or even hear? Will you still ignore it or put a positive sign on it? I don't think so. Anyway it is my way of doing things not yours, and also as much as possible i really rate positive, just don't make me see disrespectful and offensive response cause i am sure it will really a pain in our eyes. Wew.. Thank you so much for the honest and transparent response of your. I enjoy responding to it. Happy mylotting.

Hi rjvb, this confession of yours will draw me more often to your discussions. LOL. Well, I do rate, but I was not sure in the beginning that I can rate in others discussions. I was under opinion that we can only rate a response under our discussions. :( Even there, I was not sure if it was mylot or me who should be doing it. :) It was Diana who enlightened me, and ever since I have not stopped using this rating system. However, there are is a fourth category if you'd realized. You can give a plus, you can abstain, you can give a negative, or you can abuse. If you feel a response is just average stuff, you always have a right to abstain. :) In rest of the issues, I think I am agreeable with what Diana has mentioned. :)

O yes you are right about that, if you have read my responses to other comments to this discussion, i said that, it is ok to use the negative sign but do not abuse it. Besides it is our right and mylot put that sign here to make use of it not to ignore it. We just need to control ourselves about that, we need not to abuse it, cause i know it will also come back to us sooner or later. Wow are serious? You will visit my discussions? Thank you so much for that i am happy to know that. Cheers..

I don't use that icon... but I choose and mark the best response. Well I think I should start doing that. But I will check first the mylot guidelines regarding that rating system to be fair to all. Thanks rjvb26!

O yes i have read the guidelines, that is why i know that i should also use that sign. Mylot put that sign for us to use it not to ignore it. It will be useless if we will not use it. Besides mylot put it there, they are not contradicting their own guidelines it's just that they said be careful on giving a negative mark, it is ok to use but do not use it often, cause if mylot notice the kind of behavior they will investigate it. So i think it is ok to use it sometimes.

I nearly always ate a +. I dont like to penalise people who have a diffferent opinion to me, or who are disadvantaged by their lack of english. The only people I give - to, are those who deliberatly wriote something stupid or rude.

O yes i am like that, just like what i said i only give that negative mark on those people who are really disrespectful or using words that is not meant for the discussion or any discussion here in mylot. Much worse i use the ! sign, if it is really bad, but if the case is only like different point of views or anything. It is ok for me, i will rate it positive, not only for the effort but also for being transparent and being true to express their own opinion and feelings.

Sure I rate hem, and about 98% are positive. When I only get about half-a-dozen replies, mostly from friends, they are usually all constructive, even if they don't agree with me.

Yes I rate the people that respond to my discussion. I think it's only polite to rate people as they have contributed to you. Now if it's offensive to me I will rate negatively, but if it's a great response and non offensive I will rate positively!

You and i are the the same, cause you know the - mark will be useless if we will not use it. And that mark is for people to know that they have made a mistake not just to humiliate them or cause we think that they are morons. It is for their sake also for them to learn to respond properly and respectfully. Sometimes i found people who responds a discussion with only a word. Do you think it is good? Of course not, that is why i put a negative marking. You are right if the response is great mark it positive, sometimes best mark. If the response is good, even if it is not that great, mark it positive. But if it is a word only, or we think it is very irrelevant to the discussion or very disrespectful i think it is our right to put negative markings. Anyway mylot monitors the negative markings. So it is ok to put that - sign, just do not abuse it. Cause i am sure something not good will happen to our account if we do it.

Yes I do rate the responses, and not just to my discussion either. I will rate other discussions and the responses that were posted. I do rate them positive mostly. I do feel that if they are going to take the time to respond, then out of common courtesy, I am going to post a comment back to them. There are some that don't comment back, and that could be they don't have the time, or they don't know that they earn by commenting back. If there are a lot of responses to a cisscussion that I am responding to, then I don't rate them all, as it is way to many to do so, but I will rate the ones that respond on the same page where I am responding. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

i almost always rate them positive unless they say something really mean or say put something like an add in instead of a response which is invariably rude of them though im more likely to not rate them at all if they offend me than give them a negative mark on their record. i also believe in treat others as you wish to be treated :) i also try to remember to rate the discussions i respond to but i forget often :(

There's a guide on how we are suppose to rate others' post here in mylot, and as a member we should follow it. I do not mind another persons to disagree with me anyway, I wouldn't rate them negative because it'll violate the guidelines. Until now I haven't find posts that gives negative impact to mylot community, so I haven't used the negative rating yet. And for the one-liner, I'll leave them unrated.

O i see so it really violates the guidelines, well then i think that sign is very useless now don't you think? So it is better for this site to remove it cause it will do nothing good right? But violating their guidelines, why put a sign like that, if they know it will really violate the guidelines that they made? I think they are contradicting their own rules. But anyway, it is better if they will just remove the - sign so it will not be used by a honest and transparent person like me.

O yes we are not perfect, but it doesn't mean we do not have a right to give a sign like that to people that we think is not doing any good. Mylot is free for expression and opinion, why would i forbid myself using that sign, if this is a expression free site? I am only doing what i think for me is right, and i am only using my right. How can we say that we full expressed ourselves if we will forbid and control ourselves of using that sign? The essence of having that sign and this site will be no more. The negative sign that they put here will be useless. Why put a mark like that if mylot knows that it violates their guidelines? Don't you think i have a point? Anyway that sign is only for the people who know nothing but to disrespect or offend people. Thank you so much for the response.

Yes, I do. Every time I start a discussion and someone responds to it. I always try to get back on them and in case I can't comment on the response, I'd see to it that I give them a + rate. Never that I give a - rate even if the respond sometimes is offensive or when i disagree. I believe that everyone have their own opinion and I respect every opinion that is why I rate them for the effort.
