I often see this to people who were slim before and get fat after that. They are a type of scar caused by hormones impacting the elastin proteins in our skin. Hormone changes in our skin are the cause. These hormone changes may be from pregnancy, weight loss or gain, or puberty. Periods of marked hormonal shifts often result in stretch marks. Like any scar, they will not simply heal on their own. The damaged elastin protein fibers in the skin which are the cause of the stretch marks will not heal over time.and I hate having them.

I can relate to you, I have lots due to weight loss and also on my back, because of bad posture growing up. I am tempted to use those creams and products that claim to "improve" the appearance of stretch marks. I know they won't completely remove it, but at least I would like my stretch marks to be less noticeable. Have you tried those kind of stuff, and did any work? I haven't, and I am kind of afraid to try lest I get an allergic reaction or something. I think I'll ask my dermatologist if she has something to suggest.

Exactly Gabs…even my stretch marks are a reminder to the times when I could feel another life moving inside me…kicking and rolling and changing sides LOL...
a wonderful feeling which only mothers are blessed enough to have experienced.

I've got a fair share of them too...
I had mine since childhood, on my knees, probably because I once tripped & rolled down half a steep hill while running.

i have lots of stretch marks on my tummy where my skin is weak. when i got pregnant my tummy ballooned and cause my skin to break into stretchmarks. of course i would want my stretchmarks to disappear but with pregnancy, i didn't have much choice. what i hate are my cellulites. LOL!

Hi flagella08!
Never had a stretch marks even after i gave birth. I don't know why.
But you know, you can try proven creams that are sold in the market or in the pharmacy. They are effective, most of my friends are using it

I believe this usually appears on losing weight. I lost 50 pounds in 3 months time, and I have stretchmarks all over. It is a part of me and I accept it. Loving one's body, and accepting your own faults, is one step closer to being fulfilled and happy. ;)

All my stretchmarks are due to seven children. While I love my them- I hate the stretchmarks that come with pregnancy. My oldest is 16 and that's how long I've had those pesky stretchmarks. I gained and lost with each pregnancy except the last one because of hyperthyroidism. So what you say makes a lot of sense to me. Hopefully when hubby and I have some extra cash lying around I can invest in Bio-oil and see if that would work for me.
Sincerely in Christ,
Leesa C.

Hi Flagella,
I am a mom of two and when i got pregnant i got my strechmarks since i really gained weight then and when i lose weight there you are those marks did appear. I am not conscious about it anyway its covered--in my stomach area. I don't have any plan of wearing a two-piece bikini so i am fine. i have the option of using a one-piece bikini.
