Many do just so they have extra spending money, others will work part time in the field they are studying for experience. It depends on the person, class schedule, and if they can handle the extra time.

Hi Irene880. I believe that the need for a part time job while studying depends on the student's financial and experience needs. Most students accept part time jobs to aid their financial needs for tuition, projects, and other school-related expenses. For some students, however, they do part time jobs just to build up their experience listing in their resume.
Whatever the reason for having a part time job, the students must always bear in mind that at the end of every day, the priority must be on the completion of their studies.

Hello, Irene, welcome to mylot!
I do not think it's necessary for colleage student having a part-time job. Anyway, if you have enough time, taking some part-time job is good. It would be great if the part time job help with your studies. I think this forum is a good place for students, especially if you want to practise your english. At the mean time you get pay from it.
